Was watching Buffy’s Anya backstory episode. Friend asked why I sighed. “She’s not of a sufficiently high social class to have domesticated rabbits that far north in Europe in that century, but the writers couldn’t know, the paper was only presented at a conference yesterday.” Accuracy is fleeting.

Also really helpful if you're the author of a long thread and want to compile all of your posts for another format. Plus, from an accessibility standpoint, the unrolled thread is much easier on the ears when using text to speech.

Ever see a big thread you want to read, but it just seems too big? That's why I made this tool to unroll big threads. Here I've pointed it at @mollyroberts.bsky.social's excellent coverage of this morning's TRO hearing. See

I’m not saying this experience is strong support for the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, but I’m not not saying that.

Remember: ICE lied so often about people posing threats to them, to justify their violence in Chicago, that a Chicago federal judge wrote it was "difficult, if not impossible, to believe almost anything" ICE said. Do you know what it takes to get a Fed district judge to WRITE THAT in a ruling?

I don’t know, this could lead to a fun Star Trek discussion. 🖖

“How did the 8yo hear the word ‘procrastinate?’” you ask. Well, my wife was reminiscing about college and something called the Triangle of Procrastination—a chair placed in a triangle of tape in her dorm (not my story). Anywho, that prompted the above question. Now she really likes this new word.

@davidcolarusso.comOct 11, 2026, 10:48 PM

8yo: What does “procrastinate” mean? [A few moments later, after having her question answered and being asked to clean something up…] 8yo: You taught me a new word, and I’m going to use it!

Sure hoping it’s 52 seats. 🤞

I’ll do the same for $98M. ;)

Few things raise the spirits quite like gathering with several hundred folks to enjoy live theater, esp. when you’re flanked on either side by your kids. Fun was had by all.

A hand holds a colorful Wicked theater program inside Boston’s ornate Citizens Opera House. The program, titled “encore,” features Elphaba, the green-skinned witch in a black pointed hat, alongside Glinda, a blonde woman in white whispering into her ear. The cover reads “Broadway in Boston at the Citizens Opera House” and “Sept–Nov 2026.” In the background, audience members sit in red velvet seats facing an elaborately decorated stage framed by gilded architectural details and deep red curtains. A large winged dragon hangs above the stage, illuminated by blue and golden lighting.

Out for a walk. Look at that pollen basket.

Close-up of a honeybee collecting nectar from a vibrant purple aster flower in bright sunlight. The bee has a fuzzy golden-brown thorax, a striped amber-and-black abdomen, translucent veined wings, and bright orange pollen packed onto its hind legs. Its head is buried in the flower’s golden-orange center, surrounded by long, slender magenta-purple petals. A second purple aster with a prominent orange center fills the lower foreground, while additional pink and purple blossoms and dark green foliage form a softly blurred garden background.

We have a prism ball in the front room, and sometimes while you’re reading a book, it’s just like wow!

Close-up of an open mathematics book held by a hand, showing pages 214 and 215 discussing string theory, sigma models, mirror symmetry, and the geometric Langlands correspondence. The pages contain a diagram of an open string connecting two branes and a flowchart of mathematical relationships. Vivid rainbow-colored patches of sunlight, refracted through a prism, fall across the printed text and illustrations. The book is photographed indoors against a softly blurred background of warm wooden furniture.

My latest @newscientist.com cartoon

Panel 1: a large robot (composed of AI servers, network switches, storage arrays, and power distribution units) and a human are talking.

Professor "You don't want to destroy humanity do you, lLLM-A-9300x?"

Robot "Haha. What a silly question, Professor. I have no desires or feelings of my own whatsoever."

Professor (relieved)"Oh good."

Panel 2: they walk on. The robot continues "I am merely a tool of the company that created me. And that company, being composed of humans, will naturally have humanity's best interests at heart."

Panel 3: The professor is conspicuously quiet.
"Right?" says the Robot.
…
More silence

"Professor?"

The Economist's forecast now has better than even odds that the Dems could win control of the Senate with 52 seats, which let's be clear, is what they'd really need. 51's not doing it. 🤞

Yesterday, in a faculty meeting (law school) someone was referencing a set of numbers and said, “six, seven.” I made the hand motion, followed by a knowing look with a colleague who also has a young child. That’s it, that’s the scene I’m still thinking about this morning.
