“We all do better when we all do better.” That quote from Paul Wellstone summarizes my advocacy for real, evidence-based, compassionate solutions to chronic homelessness and addiction. You can count on me to fight for this city to treat these issues as true emergencies that deserve urgent action.

After a sunny morning knocking on doors, I am looking forward to taking the rest of the long weekend off to recharge before the last two weeks of the election campaign. I am so thankful to the dozens volunteers who have joined me to talk to neighbours since mid-July. It takes a village!

I am so impressed with Keelin Pringnitz. We have been knocking on doors together for weeks, and I can tell you that she is brilliant, dedicated and an incredible advocate for public education. When you mark your ballot for OCDSB trustee, vote for Keelin!

I met two very good boys with extremely appropriate names tonight. The wiener dog is named Limousine. And the cat, who I had to chase down the hall, is named Trouble.

It was nice to take a break from door knocking to make soup and cornbread to bring to Highjinx for their All Candidates Meet and Greet. I had a great time chatting with the neighbours. Thanks to Karen and Leigh for organizing!

Gather round, I have a story to tell about one water fountain and what it has to say about austerity budgets in our city.

Hallway hypnosis!

E-17. Propped up by coffee and concealer. When I close my eyes, all I see is long apartment hallways and doors. We have canvassed more than 50 high rises and aren’t done yet. Coffee.

Good eye!

The building we canvassed last night had a sunken conversation pit couch in the lobby, so naturally we had to take a photo. Probably my favourite vintage design feature that needs to make a comeback.

That was unreal

Seeing Emily Haines from Metric sing Anthems For a Seventeen Year Old Girl with Broken Social Scene, Hannah Georges and Amy Millan from Stars was an absolute fever dream.

Nah, they slam doors in my face and don’t offer me coffee and cookies

That all sounds great too!

Sometimes canvassing takes a little longer, because seniors invite you in, make you a cappuccino and show you their plant collection ❤️

I love this.

It took until 1962 for the City of Ottawa to allow all renters to vote in municipal elections. Before that, those living with roommates or in boarding houses couldn't vote. This changed after a referendum (passed 49,776 to 20,262—though renters barred from voting at the time couldn't participate).
