I have to ignore my back to I can make the flat presentable to other humans, as I actually have someone coming over tomorrow. I should make jewellery or work on a WIP, but I'm quite distracted by a nonfiction comp.

Noble looked uncomfortable, I could tell from his body language before I even looked at his face. He was standing at the bar, talking to some woman who looked like she was pretty close to him, her hand on his chest. I was trying to be civil and let him do whatever the hell it was he was doing, but I couldn’t stop the growl that left my lips multiple times every single time she laughed at one of his jokes. That fake laugh that everyone knew was not real. I decided I could not take anymore, I may be over 4.5 thousand years old but I could still be jealous like a fucking teenager.

“I hope I am not interrupting anything. I was just hoping to take my dinner partner back to the table to discuss our plans for tonight.”

Noble looks ... relieved as I get to them. “Nyx.” He says my name is a tone that tightens my chest, like I am the only thing he wants to see right now. “Nyx, this is my cousin, Amyrth. She was just telling me about how my father might be in town and he wants to meet for dinner some night.”

“My my. Look at you, you are very cute. Very mysterious. I love the long hair. It makes you look like .. Lestat.”

Did she seriously just compare me to that ... prick?

I was lightly startled as Erina walked up beside me. “What dress did mom pull out?” she asked, peering down over the railing, as I was.

To my shock, my cousin wore a simple and modest layered dress in light Sotharan blue. A silver necklace shined gently around her neck, and she was styled with a side braid in her hair, that I could immediately tell was Cam's handiwork, given the pristinely tight braids.

“A new one," I answered. "I… didn’t expect you’d want to join.”

“Why?” Resentment rang clear in her voice. “Because I’m a child?”

“No," I quickly corrected. "Because you’ve always said that you don’t like formal parties. Let alone dressing up for one.”

“It’s hardly what I'd call a party. Only a handful of guests.”

Yep, she totally included me in that. I don't know if Sarah thinks that Blake's name is LaurieandBlake or if I'm an imaginary friend, or maybe "Blake"'s an imaginary friend, since I'm the one she names first. Or, hey, maybe she believes in Blake's ghost of a best friend. I don't know Sarah well enough to say.
