In the 1990s, @senkevinhertel.bsky.social’s Dad, Democrat Curtis Hertel, Sr., served as co-speaker of the Michigan House with a Republican. That’s right. The chamber was 55 D - 55 R, and they shared power. So Kevin grew up learning about the art of compromise. There was no other way.

Every year on 9/11 I recommend reading this piece about grief, love, and meaning. For all of the politics and all of the noise, it’s important to never lose sight of those who lost, those who suffered, those who ran in to help as so many others tried to get away, and the scars it leaves behind.
