Simon Pacheco, owner of Mass Daily News, has been busy deleting social media posts, scrubbing past stories and headlines of offensive content, and protecting numerous accounts from public view. All while his MDN site burnishes his reputation.

Below, what Councilor Flynn, the Boston Herald and Mass Daily News have not, and most likely will never inform Bostonians regarding the job of assessing high value homes, stated by one of Boston's leading Wu antagonists. Panderers pander because it's profitable for them.

Also Beth, I want to clarify that the Globe's initial headline, which I complained to the reporter yesterday about, was "Meet the Boston man behind the anonymous news site rankling Wu and other progressives." Again, that focus on Wu let MDN off the hook for years of misleading, corrosive pieces.

The Globe touched on it, not a deep dive. The reporter mentioned a paid political ad and Pacheco's pursuit of donations.

Do you have evidence that Smith is behind MDN, or is that conjecture?

That "Yoga for Migrants" narrative became national news. It wasn't simply a he-said, she-said, it was a distortion of facts, and MDN presented Wu as responsible for an error in judgment by the small nonprofit. MDN's base has been fueled on outrage, and there are consequences that go beyond politics.

First, I spoke w the reporter prior, and was in comms with him. I let him know yesterday that while I felt it was a good story (esp. finally revealing the source of so-called "news"), I was disappointed by the failure to hold Pacheco accountable. It placed Wu at the center, as a he-said she-said:

A word on this story: surely you noted the lede - the sexism against the mayor. Our reporter dug in and revealed who’s behind the controversial, anonymous posts. And we say repeatedly that this is AI-based and not actual reporting. We set out to inform the community about this anonymous poster.

Imagine you're me, supporting Latoya Gayle for State Senate agains Sen Collins (who I had supported but left for good reason). Imagine, during Early Voting, Collins & Flynn concoct a scheme about Wu engaging in ballot fraud. Imagine the Herald and MDN running with that. Globe: 🦗 Gayle had a shot.

As I said yesterday, you got it right in the headline. But IMO you failed to hold him accountable for the damage, the level of corrosive influence he's profited from, presenting himself as a news source. TBH, I'm not even convinced that you're very familiar with Mass Daily News.

Is there "his side" when he labels Haitian families that were in the USA legally, now finding themselves without TPS, being immediately labeled "illegal migrants?" Is there "his side" when — in response to the Globe — he fails to mention the Protect Act permits collaboration on criminal warrants?

Been dealing with Simon Pacheco's BS for a long time. He's over on MDN polishing his own apples this weekend, having been busy renaming and protecting his "MDN Editor" account, deleting tweets, and cleaning up past MDN pieces without publishing corrections.
