love this whole thread... and also i loved Sleep No More for wild Macbeth restructurings. Absolutely everything about it made me want to just take a sketchbook and live in the set. i would have gone again and again

that's what i was thinking...

but the one I still dream about was a girl who did a solo project with costume design and it was basically like, the Macbeths as the Donna Reed Show. She brought in Barbies in sunny 1950s daywear, and I was losing my mind. I was like "SHANNON YOU UNDERSTAND THE MACBETHS ON A MOLECULAR LEVEL"

so we had like, mobster Macbeth and viking Macbeth and Macbeth where every character was played by someone from Mario Brothers and one VERY controversial pitch where someone had cast their classmates "based on personality" for all the different roles and the three witches were NOT happy

one was in a local production where they played the Banquo's ghost scene for cringe comedy. every time Macbeth said something cray the guests would kind of freeze and look at each other nervously and then Lady M would deliver her lines like "HA HA HA! THAT GUY! MY HUSBAND! WHAT A JOKER AMIRITE?????"

when someone does something with Shakespeare I've NEVER seen before - not just in the area of like production design or aesthetics or setting, or even in the approach to one of the cornerstone characters, but to like . . . absolutely fuck with the plot - I am filled with such a true joy

this is one of my favorite Shakespeare films ever not just because every frame is so breathtaking you would hang it on your wall as modern art, and not just because Denzel and Frances are all-timers, but because "wait is ROSS the big bad??" is an incredible question to be left asking yourself

Someone once replied to me saying this with some version of "so maybe I don't want it to get muted, this way you'll see it" and that was one of the most revealing comments I've ever gotten.

Also mutes take alt text into account. If you mute a word and it shows up in alt text, you won't see that post. I deeply appreciate people who use alt text!
