As Gen Xer, my artistic influences and references are already from another era, but I know Gen Zers today are either into anime or The Loud House. So I thought "what if my OCs were in TLH?" and... well, here you go. Now I'm liking these versions more than my own, lol.

A stylistic remix of my own characters in The Loud House style. From left: Daniel, Susana, Elias and Tanya.

I *wished* I could do two or more pages per day. But I also realize I just can't, either physically or mentally. Only mangakas could accomplish that and while working with assistants, and even many of them paid for it with their lives - literally. 🥲

Ha. Seriously wtf. For me it sounds more like a mishmash of age-old Judeo-Christian guilt trip mixed in with some fried-brain conceptions about sex probably coming from some subreddit. :P

For instance I know many bash on Jim Davis for Garfield being meh at humor, but he did have enough smarts to found a company (PAWS) to handle its huge IP/merch biz. Schulz was less boastful about it but also did something similar. Bill Watterson is the commie bro's ideal of a cartoonist. 😅

Some cartoonists who made it big (and I sorta have as role models) ended up delegating the drawing to assistants, themselves becoming busy with business stuff. I think that's somehow unavoidable at a given scale — but as for me that's still an "interesting problem to have" 🥲

I used to be an IT worker, doing code and whatnot, and can attest quite a lot of these folks have always been maladjusted enough to prefer computers to people. And now some of these became AI millionaires doubling down on their twisted fantasies while trying to shoehorn them into the rest of us.

In that sense Ketcham was the anti-Schulz, as he had no qualms delegating the making of the strip to someone else. Schulz, always the stoic methodical, used to said doing that was like having Arnold Palmer do his chip shots at golf.

Costa Rican Central Valley. It was a very long one.

Just in case someone's wondering: I barely felt anything and nothing broke or fell over. Some peers say they felt like they were on a swaying boat. 😳⛴️

Here's an excerpt from "Kid Beowulf Odyssey" in which Beowulf and Hama arrive in the land of the Lotus Eaters.

Read the rest on my patreon, kidbeowulf.com, or webtoon!

I just love looking at Ed Benedict's early designs for Hanna-Barbera characters. He embraced the UPA style and understood how to make these designs work within limited animation. He was one of the artists who gave the studio its identity in the early years.

Fourteen pages a day?! Fame hits different when you make comics... 🥲

@alzamon.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 6:12 PM

Can attest — worked with and knew quite a bunch of them. Oddly enough, the tech parents I knew were decidedly non-tech with quality time for their families. The single/non-parent ones were and are the worst though. It's like they think they can stay being 27 for the rest of their lives.

And finished, this took me quite some time, as reusable content is actually minimal and had to redo many things 🥲 but anyway, I also exported a monochrome version to see how could it work for book guard pages.

The finished, colored double spread featuring the main characters of my Coativille comic series.The same spread but with a posterized, monochrome filtering for guard pages usage.

I usually design my business cards to be conversation-starters. But at after too many endless awkward discussions at recent events, I realized I needed a new type of card. The conversation-ender.

A stack of business cards reads in English and Korean: Generative AI is unethical, annoying, and anti-art. Anything it touches will fail, and be a mark of shame on human history. I do not wish to discuss this further.

I loathe everything Meta, like it here a million times better but my core audience remains there because people are lazy and fighting it on your own is useless. I don't know which kind of nuclear f-up should take place for people to jump ship. And we've got this new crap to deal with. Joy 🥲

@alzamon.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 7:08 PM

We're facing quite a paradigm shift. From having our tastes and likes and fandoms and whatnot shaped by mass media, to realizing all of that now turbo sucks and we'd need to start over somehow (that's the discourse I hear from grumpy animators about the industry, at least).

@alzamon.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 2:11 PM

Don’t think we can escape AI from software engineering at this point, if the feedback of my programming friends is any indication. What’s important here imo is to know how our info and work are processed on this software. Open source should mean open receipts…
