The tragic death of Alex Blacio, 16, in an e-scooter / truck crash on Western Avenue, 2 blocks west of the Leavitt Greenway, highlights the need for universal truck side guards, and an intuitive, citywide, grid of low-stress bike and scooter routes.

The good folks @bikegridnow.org are sprucing up the Cortland Ave. Bridge in preparation for next Sunday's (10/18, 3-7 p.m.) event. 👇 Whether you think Cortland should be bike/ped only or just want a safe/secure passage for bikes, peds, and the plucky #73 Armitage bus, show up to show your support.
Here's a great response to A.J. Manaseer from @michaelmclean.me: a video of the gigantic Hamilton school bike bus:
.
Chicago bike lane skeptic A.J. Manaseer is at it again. Remember when he wagered SBC about ridership on the Augusta Blvd. PBLs, met with John to do counts, lost the bet and – to his credit – kept his promise to donate to bike ed centers?

So good news, the Michigan Ave bus lane is starting to get painted, and it means the bike lane also has a fresh coat of green paint. Let's see how that's going...
At APTA Expo, Chicagoland’s transit’s future came in two forms: a battery train and a new regional system.

During yesterday's Traffic Safety Committee meeting, the Divvy /Lyft contract extension vote was delayed... ⏱️ ...But alders unanimously approved expanding camera enforcement of bus/bike lanes and bus stops citywide. 🥳
Multiple advocacy groups endorsed the Divvy contract extension in committee today, but Lime managed to squeeze out a victory, as the vote was deferred. 🤔
Meanwhile alders voted unanimously to expand camera enforcement of bus and bike lanes citywise. 👍

The Traffic Safety Committee voted to expand Smart Steets camera enforcement of bus/bike lanes and bus stops to more of the city. 👍 It will now go for a Council vote. More on today's hearing soon.
Here's a Lime spokesperson's explanation, shared with permission, of why the company's press release against the Lyft/Divvy contract extension, and the op-ed in The Triibe supporting their position, credited to an advocacy org, have such similar wording.
The plot thickens! Lime just announced "Over $32 Million in Investments in Chicago From 2024 through 2026 Ahead of Micromobility Council Debate."

Here's our preview of today's Traffic Safety Committee meeting, where alders may vote on whether to extend the @divvybikes.bsky.social contract. Divvy competitor Lime has released a statement against the deal.

It's déjà vu all over again!
In 2019 @thetriibe.com wasn't 100% transparent about Uber buying negative coverage of Divvy/Lyft contract.
chi.streetsblog.org/2019/03/27/u...
Thursday they ran an op-ed against the Divvy/Lyft contract, heavily paraphrased or cut & pasted from Lime's press release.
And , not that this is a requirement for being a good transit system leader (although maybe it should be!), can you imagine Dorval Carter going on The War on Cars podcast like Nora Leerhsen did recently?
The FOIAed ridership chart is by transit analyst @nikhunder.com.
Nik and @ellensteinke.bsky.social (both of whom have written for SBC) did a great summary of how much the CTA has improved since ex-president Dorval carter stepped down and Acting President Noral Leerhsen took over in 2/25.
Planner @humantransit.bsky.social is generally a yoda-like source of transit wisdom.
But his theory that regular transit ridership doesn't correlate with caring about a system and doing a good job of running it isn't supported with what happened with @chicagocta.bsky.social.

Per a source, unlike how The Triibe was paid by Uber to oppose the 2019 Divvy/Lyft amendment, WKYR was not compensated by Lime to oppose the current Divvy/Lyft extension. Instead, they say, WKYR wrote the op-ed in The Triibe because they don't want to see Lime leave the Far South Side. 3/X
We've seen no evidence of any wrongdoing this time, but once again The Triibe has run an op-ed against the *current* Divvy/Lyft contract extension proposal. This time the byline is We Keep You Rollin', the respected Far South Side walk/bike/transit advocacy group. 2/X
