Is anyone I know going to #BCME10 in a couple of weeks?

Or anyone I don't know but might like to change that, I guess?

would love a better image than this but I only blue sky on my phone will blog it at some point key here is link between function machine, algebra tiles representation and abstract written algebra notation previous to this we either exchange the x tile for 5 or we replace the x on the tile with 5

I was doing something very similar with Y7 not long ago!

It consists of 8 A-level style questions on Maclaurin series that students must solve, then add their answers together to get a code.An image of an A-level Further Mechanics resource titles Momentum and Impulse with Vectors Fill in the Blanks. Took me a while to work out what you meant then!

A few weeks ago, I posted a blog about following up worked examples by asking "What would happen to the answer if I changed the question slightly?" Here's another example of this from the blog.

wp.me/p9t8DE-s8

#Mathschat #MTBoS #iTeachMaths #Maths

Initial question:

Find the mean, median, mode and range for the dataset:

12, 13, 14, 17, 17, 19, 20

Answers:
mean = 16,      median = 17,      mode = 17,      range = 8

What would happen if I changed the question?
What would happen if we increased the last number by 1 (20 to 21)?
Which summary statistics would change? Why?
Which summary statistics would stay the same? Why?

the flexibility of the algebra tiles is that they can be used in multiple different algebraic ways. If youre not keen on seeing the negative representation in the area model that is not a problem

Love representations in maths.
But definitely do not like algebra tiles. Is that ok?

I was thinking about #MathsConf the other day, and in particular pondering what I would run a workshop on if I did another one.

I've alighted on the following title:

Teaching from a blank page (or, how to ditch your PowerPoint)
