@pv-physicist.bsky.socialIn the UK similar gardens (with slightly different rules) are called allotment gardens. So that's why I use that term in English. The garden is ca. 250m2, has a big hut, a fig tree, a (dead) apple tree, some roses and many weeds from the previous tenant.
@pv-physicist.bsky.socialI have a German "Schrebergarten". It is a plot of land that is fenced and is for my exclusive use. It is part of an association so there are hundreds of plots like that around it. The land is rented from the City very cheaply and there are rules that I need to grow food on a certain fraction of it.
@pv-physicist.bsky.socialI love the local cargo bike scheme! Got to cycle around town with some berry bushes and a nectarine tree today.
@pv-physicist.bsky.socialWent to a plant nursery today and then did some picking in the allotment. Pretty good selection!
@pv-physicist.bsky.socialWow! That has never happened to me. I have occasionally found broken batteries that were oozing a bit, in very old devices. But nothing like what you describe. You now have me wondering if climate, or differences in quality controls, manufacturing standards and consumer protection laws play a role.
@pv-physicist.bsky.socialFilled lots of little jars with delicious grape jelly. Most seem to have sealed well and I hope they won't spoil.
@pv-physicist.bsky.socialFor some variety I added in a couple of twigs of rosemary. Let's see how this jam turns out.
@pv-physicist.bsky.socialThat looks ready to drain
@pv-physicist.bsky.socialFirst I've got to get the juice out of these.
@pv-physicist.bsky.socialTime to process some more allotment abundance! After lots of blue grapes, I have moved on to green/ yellow grapes.
@pv-physicist.bsky.socialHeute Mitternacht ist die Deadline
@pv-physicist.bsky.socialOur idea for a #40C3 talk is submitted!
Let's see if we get selected.
@pv-physicist.bsky.socialThe @uni-freiburg.de weather station is once again attracting little visitors
@pv-physicist.bsky.socialIch tippe auf Fuß undefiniert
@pv-physicist.bsky.socialIt's peppermint and I will dry most of it for tea.
@pv-physicist.bsky.socialI keep thanking the gardeners who had my allotment before me, for planting grape vines. The only thing that was happy during this extreme summer and they keep giving me a great harvest.
@pv-physicist.bsky.socialThe garden is somewhat recovered from the extreme drought we had this summer and is gifting flowers to me.
@pv-physicist.bsky.socialGreat evening with @simoneherpich.bsky.social brewing an abstract for #40C3
@pv-physicist.bsky.socialAh! Wir erkläre ich das meinem Vermieter bei der Mietzahlung? 🤔
@pv-physicist.bsky.socialGood for you! I've just started piano lessons I don't really have time for. But still, it's an interesting process to learn from scratch!
