We've stopped posting ME-SEN polls because who cares at this point:

It's a very tight race, every vote will count and the focus of folks who are interested in moving the needle needs to turn to volunteering, relational organizing (i.e. texting everyone in your contacts), visibility etc. #MEpolitics

@collinswatch.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 4:59 PM

This is actually scandalous behavior and no one involved should work anywhere near journalism ever again. #MEpolitics @sulliview.bsky.social @froomkin.bsky.social @jayrosen.bsky.social @oliverdarcy.bsky.social @brianstelter.bsky.social

Holy smokes. What on earth is going on here?

This is not fact-checking!

At best it's poorly-informed nonsense but it feels very much like calculated misinformation. #MEpolitics

PolitiFact tweet: Troy Jackson said that Susan Collins “put people like Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court that took away Roe v. Wade.”

Collins did vote for Kavanaugh but it’s misleading to draw a direct line between Collins and Roe v. Wade’s end.

In recent days Susan Collins has pushed the ludicrious idea that for voters focused on abortion rights, she's the better candidate. Experts on all sides know this is nonsense and closer to 2+2=5 misinfo than typical campaign-season hyperbole. Responsible outlets need to convey this to readers.

Longtime Susan Collins fan and Press Herald columnist @stevecollinsyji.bsky.social comes to the conclusion that she hasn't met the moment and isn't up to the job. #MEpolitics

Steve Collins column:

During this week's debate, Collins said she is "not exactly" Trump's favorite senator, to which there is some truth.
It is equally true, however, that the president wants her to secure another term. Like everyone else, Trump recognizes that a "concerned" Collins is far better for him than a dedicated foe like Jackson.
Collins wants Mainers to see her as a moderate, reasonable and independent leader in the mold of former Sens. Olympia Snowe and William Cohen. That vision has grown ever more hollow as Collins faced the difficult task of dealing with Trump. As he runs amok in Washington, she has, sadly, proved that she isn't up to the challenge of protecting the prerogatives of the Senate and defending the laws it has enacted.

Bangor Daily News playbook going back decades at this point: Collapse difference between Susan Collins and her opponent that favor her opponent and heighten those that help her.

One problem at the moment is that there are vanishingly few differences that help her electorally. #MEpolitics

Yes but what if you talk incessantly about the $1 and take credit for it constantly and pretend the $75 doesn't exist? #MEpolitics

With another debate coming up, since Susan Collins tried to distort her record of voting with Trump last time, here's a @votehub.com chart (tinyurl.com/34ktb2a4) depicting all 223 votes where Trump had a clear stance in 2025.

Collins is the red dot at left. With Trump 95% of the time. #MEpolitics

Susan Collins funds the Leonard Leo-backed disinformation outlet this guy works for and gives him interviews all the time.

That's who she is and what she's about. #MEpolitics

Longtime Susan Collins crony and former Collins campaign staffer concedes his old boss is in hot water over the surge in heating oil price brought on by the Iran war she's supported and enabled.

(But he suggests voters are being "emotional" about the issue.) #MEpolitics

“It’s a huge issue up here,” Lance Dutson, a Republican strategist in Maine, said Tuesday night as temperatures in parts of the state dipped into the 40s. Ms. Collins can point to her work to bring federal heating assistance funds to the state, he added, but that might go only so far in assuaging an “emotional electorate” facing deep financial strain because of the price increases.

It's eight years ago now so it can be hard to remember, but the sordid role Susan Collins played during the Kavanaugh nomination -- functioning as a sort of PR ambassador for the GOP and a stealth character assassin of Dr. Ford -- was despicable and disqualifying all by itself. #MEpolitics

@collinswatch.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 12:15 PM

Again @randybillings.bsky.social with the lazy/sloppy recap:

Other than hand-waving, straw man nonsense and falsely suggesting that Navatek's work product wasn't useless (later debunked), what *specific* claims made by @propublica.org has Susan Collins or her camp actually denied? Any? #MEpolitics

Press Herald article: Collins and her campaign have repeatedly denied the allegations outlined in the ProPublica article, calling them “outrageous.”
@collinswatch.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 12:08 PM

Attorneys for Christina Blasey Ford:

"[Susan] Collins may claim to be a moderate, but she does not vote like one. And where Dr. Ford demonstrated tremendous courage, Sen. Collins has demonstrated that she will always place politics over principle." tinyurl.com/yb6pyx63 #MEpolitics

Press Herald article: "Collins justified her vote by explaining that she had met privately with Kavanaugh, who, in addition to denying the assault, assured her that he would honor precedent, including Roe v. Wade. She subsequently also told CNN that with regard to Dr. Ford’s sexual assault, “I do not believe that Brett Kavanaugh was her assailant. I do believe that she was assaulted. I don’t know by whom, and I’m not certain when, but I do not believe he was the assailant.”
This preposterous explanation, while politically expedient, was offensive not only to Dr. Ford but to survivors everywhere. Conveniently forgotten by Collins was Dr. Ford’s sworn testimony that she was “one hundred percent” certain that it was Kavanaugh who had assaulted her. Also ignored was the important fact that Dr. Ford had named Kavanaugh as her assailant to her friends, therapist and husband years before his nomination."

There it is. #MEpolitics

@collinswatch.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 2:14 AM

Surprised to see @pressherald.com pick up this story.

But maybe they felt they had to after Susan Collins spox said: "Sen. Collins was not involved in this decision."

What?! It was in the appropriations bill! And she chairs the committee! That means she's was "involved"! #MEpolitics

Press Herald headline: Susan Collins’s committee bought trucks the Army didn’t want. Then campaign donations poured in.
Appropriations committee members saw an influx of campaign contributions after steering $345 million to a military contractor.

At risk of taking Susan Collins half-baked pushback on ProPublica's revelations more seriously than it deserves:

It's like if you got hold of security footage from your doctor's office and said, "You see! I hadn't paid yet but they saw me anyway! That's proof I never agreed to pay!" #MEpolitics

The Never-Trump Republicans at The Bulwark understand that Susan Collins's fake moderation and her amoral cynicism make her more dangerous -- and a bigger asset to the wannabe fascists -- than any other GOP candidate this cycle. #MEpolitics

@collinswatch.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 4:30 PM

Underscores how wildly irresponsible it was for @randybillings.bsky.social/@pressherald.com to run a piece yesterday indulging Susan Collins's desperation-fueled pretense that this photo was exculpatory when that makes no sense.

Being a 'BS detector' for readers is the core of the job! #MEpolitics

@propublica.org's Molly Redden makes the same observation we made yesterday:

The photo Susan Collins put out yesterday of her meeting Martin Kao in 2018 is fully consistent w/ ProPublica's article.

It doesn't refute the report. If anything it's more corroboration. tinyurl.com/mwx5s6n2 #MEpolitics
