I'm serious with this. Republicans have let the veil drop and there is no law that will contain them as they consolidate power.

What's the plan for when the regime holds the House because they've jailed just enough opposition politicians to make the differerence?

@alexwild.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 12:39 PM

There are many reasons why Trump and every member of his autocratic regime deserves prison, but turning federal law enforcement into the Republican Party’s opposition-removal squad is one of them. This is what dictatorships do.

They are going to have to learn quickly, because the U.S. government no longer cares about the security of either Europe or Canada.

National soccer media needs to do a better job covering what’s going on in Austin. Entire fan section walks out mid match and it’s absolute crickets out-there. If you’re covering the match and focusing on Nashville’s win or Austin’s loss you are not doing your job.

This is Europe's cue to close US military bases and sanction US officials.

A modern note; the Yellow Fever mosquito vector species is common here, and also transmits Dengue and Chikungunya. But we now have a yellow fever vaccine, and the other pathogens have not yet established a local foothold. I say "yet". Florida is dealing with its largest ever Dengue outbreak.

The campaign of educational censorship sweeping Texas and other GOP-governed states in the name of “free speech” and “diversity of viewpoint” in many ways exceeds the worst of the McCarthy Era (gift link obvs) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...

You have to go back to the loyalty oath cases of the Cold War period to see relatively analogous situations where the government was trying to silence academics with viewpoints that they didn’t like,” Emerson Sykes, an attorney with the ACLU, told me. “But even in those cases, we did not see the sort of brazen attempt to ban particular ideas or ideologies and scrub them from the public record or from public education.”

This is what happens when you elevate “civil discourse” to be the greatest good. All of the sudden, it’s worse to call someone a Nazi than it is to be a Nazi.

There are many ways to destroy a university. Texas Tech, Texas A&M + the University of Texas have each taken a different approach…But the result will be the same: substandard education, substandard research + graduates who are less prepared for their future… + more prepared to obey without question.
