Oh I didn't see that!

Good point. But it came to mean that I think....

Oups and I had forgotten this about epigenetic landscapes themselves from the perspective of art, language and science makingsciencepublic.com/2019/03/01/f...

For some reason that made me all nostalgic and I re-read a post I wrote about Waddington (a really good guy!) which was sparked off by one of your tweets years ago - 2019! makingsciencepublic.com/2019/01/26/p...

I am really surprised that nobody has yet invented bus anthropology or bus ethnograpy - what a fascinating field of human language, interaction etc. it would be...and the changes of time.....

The leaves are beginning to turn in #Wollaton Park

Picture of autumn scene in Wollaton Park. Two silhouettes of tress with foliage overhead in shade left and right and trees in reds and browns in the distance between them

I once saw a peacock in a tree and was flabbergasted. I never expected them to fly!

I was about to throw away a post on three 'man-made' adjectives (anthropogenic, synthetic and artificial) when 'super' came along and I couldn't #AI #synbio #climate #linguistics #metaphors #scicomm makingsciencepublic.com/2026/10/11/w...

If Americans view, clip, share, and permanently enshrine an American public killing in a million ways on the internet, we will move towards fascist rituals of violence.

In other words, a 10 percent contraction in one of Britain’s most successful exports. If it were steel or fish or other infinitely less profitable sectors, people would be having a meltdown.

Interesting! I think a similar argument can be made for some contested metaphors in genomics. Use but acknowledge imperfections. Language and human knowledge are built on imperfections..

I just looked up the price, oh la la!

This is a very disturbing read by Philip Moriarty about the corporate consultants at University of Nottingham, whose "bloodless prime-LLM-grade corporate boilerplate" called Future Nottingham 2 is guiding decision-making - cuts, cuts and more cuts.

In the mid 1900s, not everyone even believed that genes played a significant role in development. C.H. Waddington’s iconic epigenetic landscapes helped to change that. New data both confirms and complicates his ideas. www.quantamagazine.org/how-does-lif...

As expected, the Prime Minister's promise to sort out the mess of funding for Jodrell actually meant nothing - it seems the government would like it to be some sort of heritage theme park when you can go and see where we used to do science. 🔭
