They're building a new hall?

@greyskiesthinking.bsky.social
Research, analysis & grey-skies thinking on labour markets, social security, public finance & equality. Usual disclaimer. Cheap foreign labour 🇮🇪. Profile pic is Takashi Shimura with Toshiro Mifune in Stray Dog (Akira Kurosawa, 1949).
They're building a new hall?
Ah! They managed the Albert Hall acoustic very well - unlike several much larger ensembles I've seen there.
What a weird world we live in - Ukraine hits a data centre deep in Russia - Irish twitter users see racist posts about IPAS centres in Offaly fall off a cliff
How was it?
That sounds good. Raw leaves?
Can't recommend growing sorrel highly enough. Hardly ever on sale here, doesn't need much light or attention, benefits from regular plundering of the larger leaves. Wilt on low heat, drain under cold water, reheat with a little butter, serve with scrambled eggs or in an omelette.
And it leads to this kind of argument where Output Areas are simultaneously individual streets and self-contained "communities" that constrain people's contacts and economic opportunities.

This is an old CSJ trick: using the inevitable outliers from small area data to back up statements to the effect that 'there are areas in the country where X% are on benefits/single parents/immigrants'.
Not this again. What source are they using? What population denominators?
I mostly remember their sellers bellowing 'Want to read about the fight for Irish freedom *mate*?' at me at Embankment tube station in the early 90s, which I found the most offensively English thing ever.
Have you seen @bobfrombrockley.bsky.social 's stuff on them?
It bothers me I've been despising them since the Poll Tax campaign. I should have been allowed to forget about them by now.
Wasn't he the editor of Living Marxism?
Former Times columnist Mick Hume no less. It's amazing how the whole RCP cadre were absolutely plastered over the Omarska affair, yet since then their individual and collective paths have been constantly smoothed every step of the way.
Starting with Doonbeg Golf Club! 🇮🇪
Racism got him here and he’s clinging to it like his life ring — it’s all he’s ever had, the gateway corruption from which all others flow — and look how far it’s got him and how horribly it’s cost us.
I was looking for the entrance to the Institut just last week (years since I've been there) and as soon as I raised my eyes from Google maps the penny dropped that it was where chic people were standing outside smoking.
Ah but for once it would feel chic.
