Cartoon villain shit
The more combative Dems get, the more of this they will run into. It will be a coordinated wave of elite opinion, scolding them, tamping them down. The fight strategy *only* works if they are willing to bull their way through it, blow it off, mock it. (Their history does not raise one's hopes.)
Or do, actually. I need to pay for college somehow.
Don't play my 9 yo mancala for money is all I'm saying
Do the opposite of what Brooks says remains undefeated
That's the flipside of our constitutional system being made "more democratic." But I suspect there's also a story to tell about how those same elites have contributed to all manner of dysfunction, including those that have stifled other pro-democratic reforms.
One way to think about US political history is a story of our elites consistently failing us -- of failing to fulfill the critical role that the Constitution has assigned to them. And not surprisingly, that role has been gradually diminished over time.
Or at least is supposed to do. It was, after all, elites that were supposed to mediate and supervise public debate to mitigate the risk that would come with political parties. We've seen how that turned out.
I'm not a political scientist. But this issue strikes me as important. Not least of which because US elites seem so unique compared to their foreign peers. But also because our constitutional design rests so much on the wisdom and public spiritedness of our elites.
I've seen scholarship comparing US governing institutions with those of other rich democracies. And obviously those shed important light on our current predicament. But they also seem incomplete. Has there been any effort to systematically compare US elites (whatever that might look like)?
I suspect if more people got half a loaf more of the time, then there would be fewer nut bars out there resorting to political violence in their pursuit of three of the stupidest loaves imaginable
1.) If you tried to explain to low-information normies that highly placed people in the Republican Party are this insane, they wouldn't believe you. 2) Who would be the Democratic Party equivalent of this?
The low key best part is how the older kids on the team (15+) are so supportive of the younger kids (9 and under). And it seems totally authentic.
Let's be honest. His legacy wasn't great to begin with.
Conservatives have to do very little work comparatively on maintaining a healthy democracy, and they essentially never have to play a leadership role in such efforts. This gives them a tremendous amount of undeserved leverage in more quotidian policy disputes. Healthy!
