When he finally croaks it, we should get 'Finally Some Fucking Peace' Prizes.

That’s what made it really interesting in 90/92, you’d get some hip hop and dance stuff as well at an ‘indie’ night.

Also featured lower down the charts: - All Systems Go's alleged Acid House version of Pop Muzik (you don't remember it? There's a reason for that) - Heart Throbs: "Too Many Shadows" - Zoot & The Roots: "Sweat & Tears" - They Might Be Giants' debut "Don't Let's Start"

ISTR that in my home town/city/whatever, the alternative clubs put an unofficial ban on Fiesta by The Pogues and Should I Stay or Should I Go for precisely those reasons.

What bothered me about the 96/97 stage of Britpop was how *slow* most of it got. Too much of it plodded.

I love I'm Not in Love as well - it's one of those where familiarity has blunted it somewhat. Also, radio never plays the full version anymore, where you get the Wall of Ghosts on that long fade, which put the fear of god into me as a kid. (A record I remember when it came out.)

@areamancm.bsky.social used to close, fairly often, with the Dankworth Tomorrow's World theme music. Not easy to dance to, even sober.

@whenisbirths.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 11:25 AM

Oh my god, so it became an I'm Not in Love for the mid-90s.

@whenisbirths.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 11:21 AM

I never thought Wonderwall was something you could really dance to anyway. The first album seems to be more suitable for that. Rock n Roll Star, Up in the Sky, Supersonic.

I've written an interview feature for @theartsdesk.bsky.social on the extraordinary Barnsley Youth Choir. Amid the shittiness everywhere in the world these days, this group - and their leader Mat Wright - shine out as inspirations

This Alan Titchmarsh programme has a bit where they just show Adobe Stock landscape footage and music for five minutes. I might pitch a rival show which goes one further and leaves the watermarks on.
