Timeline cleanse! Not to be outdone by Fat Bear Week, the folks at Denali National Park held their own contest—for the burliest 6-month-old husky. While all of us here in Maine were hoping Acadia would prevail, none were a match for Mammoth. Don’t worry, Acadia. You’re still #1 in our eyes!
You better believe I’m going to keep fighting like hell to reverse these harmful policies—and continue working with MAHA voices to protect public health, hold polluters accountable, and make sure every American has access to safe food and clean water.
The Admin has failed to deliver on 37 of 42 major MAHA promises, according to a new scorecard. Boosting production of glyphosate. Backing Bayer in a SCOTUS case over pesticide liability. Rolling back protections from PFAS. Allowing factories to pump more mercury into the air. The list goes on.
After more than 7 months aboard the ISS, NASA’s SpaceX Crew-12 mission has safely splashed down in the Pacific. I’m so relieved that all 4 crew members—including Maine’s own Jessica Meir—are back safe. Jessica continues to make her fellow Mainers proud. Congrats to the entire crew. Welcome home!
Tariffs can play a legitimate role in trade policy. But Trump’s approach has been reckless and poorly executed from the beginning. Democrats are committed to doing everything in our power to reverse these reckless tariffs, rebuild strong trade partnerships and lower costs for hardworking Americans.
The NY Fed estimates that consumer goods prices would have actually declined without Trump's tariffs. Instead, his reckless policies made everyday goods MORE expensive. Economists warned that businesses would simply pass tariff costs on to consumers. Now American families are paying the price.
This is the kind of suppression you see in communist China. NOT in America. I recently cosponsored a House resolution to draw attention to the growing crisis of book-banning, and encourage schools and local governments to protect access to books representing diverse viewpoints and perspectives.
“To Kill a Mockingbird” “The Color Purple” “Of Mice and Men" “The Handmaid’s Tale” These are just a few of the books that have been banned in recent years. Many others have come under attack. In fact, the ALA has identified 150 books that are being threatened by ridiculous censorship efforts.
I joined 24 of my colleagues in calling on the Dept. of Energy to take immediate action by: ✅ Undoing the Admin's cuts to clean energy ✅ Repealing tax increases on energy-efficiency upgrades ✅ Ending the attacks on LIHEAP Mainers shouldn’t have to suffer to pay for the president’s reckless war.
American families that rely on heating oil are projected to pay ~$600 more to keep their homes warm this winter than last year. In Maine, which uses more residential heating oil than any other state, the average price of oil recently hit a record $6.02/gallon. That’s an 80% increase over last year.
We have to keep pushing, keep reaching across the aisle, and keep building on the issues that unite us.
Long before MAHA, I was fighting for a food system that puts people and farmers first. But MAHA moms and activists have helped bring these issues into the national spotlight. A few weeks ago I joined Rep. Massie at the Real Organic Project to talk about some of our wins—and where we go from here.
NBD, just Trump casually suggestion that Iran taking out L.A. or San Diego would be a “small price to pay.” If Biden or Obama said anything remotely this crazy, Republicans wouldn’t have stopped yelling about it for weeks. This? Just “Trump being Trump"! He's demented, delusional, and dangerous.
Back in August, I joined an amicus brief arguing that states and communities have the right to hold these companies accountable. We can't afford to let Big Oil use the courts to escape accountability. Communities throughout Maine are already paying the price. They deserve to seek justice.
Today, SCOTUS will hear arguments in a case that will determine whether states + local governments can sue Big Oil for climate change damages. This is a HUGE case, with enormous implications. Big Oil thinks federal statute preempts state + local laws. This is a wildly irresponsible interpretation.
Trump is using your tax dollars to run propaganda ads praising himself while his illegal war drives up the cost of gas and heating oil. Corruption. Warmongering. Self-enrichment. Republicans in Congress need to grow a spine, rein this president in, and do their jobs. Enough already.
Thank you to Steve Collins for this thoughtful column. The stakes of this moment are bigger than any 1 elected official. What matters is that we keep paying attention +turning justified frustration into action. I’m grateful to the Mainers doing exactly that every day. I’ll keep doing my part, too.
Yesterday, I sent him a letter imploring him to take this crisis seriously. Many Mainers have had their livelihoods disrupted due to PFAS contamination. It’s well past time for the EPA to take real, meaningful action to protect our rural communities and food supply.
Proud to see Maine lead the way in helping communities address PFAS contamination. It’s a promising development, no doubt. But here’s my question for EPA Administrator Zeldin: If you’re worried enough about PFAS to applaud this (rightly so!), why aren’t you doing more about it at the federal level?
"The greatest economy in the history of our country by far," he said literally two days ago.
