That's it for me this week.

Genuinely one thing I'll do this weekend is submit my 6 small fixes to small-ideas.org. It'll be fascinating to see if any make it to the long list (I'm not in selection til later)

Pls put your ideas in too. Have a great weekend. See you Mon!

Just read the title of today's Politico newsletter. Genuis headline... "Back Zack or sack?" [Not a political comment just kowtowing to the pun construct!]

Please submit your small ideas for fixing Britain to the Small-Ideas.org website. It’s a new charitable initiative I’ve set up to try and make sure life’s potholes don’t get ignored. Working with two charities and a cross party panel to turn your ideas into policy then try and make it happen.

Andy just to be technical that was one of our illustrative ideas we are not submitting those as that seems inappropriate for us to do it. if you like it though I would love you to suggest it

@martinlewis.moneysavingexpert.comOct 8, 2026, 9:33 AM

Nice. One of my ideas for the name was national suggestion box

Now debating if etiquette says that sad face should've been a happy one. Anyway I'm trying to be helpful not obtuse!

@martinlewis.moneysavingexpert.comOct 8, 2026, 9:32 AM

Add for the exact mechanics you will need to speak to Nesta. Sorry :(

@martinlewis.moneysavingexpert.comOct 8, 2026, 9:31 AM

We don't send straight to the submission page because we prefer people to understand who and what is going on first it helps make sure people are pre-filtering their ideas :)

BIG NEWS: Today I’m excitedly launching The Small Ideas Initiative. We want you to submit ideas for non-controversial fixes, e.g “live sewage updates for beaches” or “standardised allergen menus” to turn into proper policy. Full info here... blog.moneysavingexpert.com/2026/10/mart...

I don't know about where you are, but the weather suddenly feels so different today. The sky is greyer. Ive got so used to waking up to sunny, warm days. It's seems months since it last felt like this.

- I lost money investing after Trump's actions, how'd you persuade me to restart? - Success: I got £3,000 more pension by listening to the pod! - I bought a home at 30, can I fix energy before moving? Answers to these listener questions & more in his new MARTIN'S QUESTION TIME podcast

Yet its important you understand why as it doesn’t mean it’s bad to fix. In fact right now if you’re on the Price Cap (unless you’re on prepay) you should be able to get a cheap fix (do compare), pay less straight away and prevent the predicted price hikes.

The cost of your fixed rate energy tariff can RISE! 👇

There’s £136bn in Premium Bonds, but are they any good? How do they really work; are some bonds better than others; would you be better off in top savings or investing? The new “Time to ditch your premium bonds?” Martin Lewis podcast answers all that and more.

So in the third year the pension would just increase by the 2.5% inflation (not the 5% growth of average earnings)
