I've worked on the hospital side in this role as well. There are no innocent parties. Both are out to get as much money as possible. Honestly, I like my current role better. No weekends or holidays. I work from home. No arguing with doctors that can't be bothered. I have compassionate coworkers.

I also can't just go back to the bedside. You are assuming that everyone is physically able to go back to a physically demanding job. I loved being a bedside nurse. When I couldn't do it anymore, I went to utilization review.

I currently work for a major insurance company as a prior authorization nurse. A single payor system does not get rid of my job. Canada still has prior authorization as do most single payor countries. It prevents fraud, waste, and abuse. Hospitals and doctors are after money. Just ask Rick Scott.
