Having long been aware of those tech bros who read my work as utopian porn, where they’ve taken that doesn’t exactly surprise me.

Once I was sitting at the bar in Hudson’s bookstore/bar and an incredibly hot man in grandpa jeans was asking for Anne Carson’s then-new Nox (they did not have it), he was with a woman in big sunglasses and a tire jacket. It was, of course, Sam Shepard and Jessica Lange.
As for BEHEMOTH!: It's Tony Gilroy so the quality is assured, and unlike some reviews that fault it for being slight, I found it a really moving meditation on creativity, parenting, the weight of expectations, and the challenges of building an artful life. Also, funny! ymmv but I liked it a lot
big events in NYC are notoriously tricky to navigate/attend but now I've figured out the perfect hack, which is only go to the ones being held on Staten Island
online the screening was almost entirely sold-out but in person the theater was maybe 40% full? Which suggests a lot of people who bought tickets either a) didn't realize it was in Staten Island or b) did and bought tickets anyway then decided to bail either way, they missed a really good movie!
I’m not a hero, I’m just a person who traveled by bus to Staten Island because there were a few single seats left for an NYFF screening of BEHEMOTH!
Eva Marie Saint was born the year Lenin died and lived long enough to not hear "Choosin' Texas"
This was my reaction too and I don't even know whether the "we" is humanists, women, people with the ability to read, Canadians, fans of Sappho, fans of Emily Dickinson, translators, classicists, or people who appreciate the feelings of sad red monsters. Either way, yes
My review of this won't be out for a minute, but CUPERTINO slaps. Robert and Michelle King have done it yet again!
We congratulate Anne Carson, winner of the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature. Carson is a contributing editor at Granta and a regular writer for the magazine. In celebration, we have lifted the paywall on all her contributions to our pages.
congratulations to my close personal friend* Anne Carson on her richly deserved Nobel *the poet I begged for a selfie at the national Book Awards
