Men played women's roles for *centuries* in multiple cultures across the freaking world. So this feels really fucking stupid.

Student debt is at the heart of why campus sexual violence derails victims’ lives too. The primary reason victims drop out of college is because they are encouraged to take temporary leaves of absence—and then they can’t return until they are current on student loan payments.

I simply don't think that colleges & universities should make nurturing homes for violent impunity factories, this belief is based on being a woman in the US for the past seven thousand years.

I know many great people in academia & the frontline profs & TAs, so many of them DO care. Dealing with this violence falls on them & lower level admins. But the people who actually want to help get no real support from the admin. It certainly contributes to the burnout in academia from what I hear.

The men at that U of C frat of course knew about Cornell, then a number of them stood in a bathroom and cheered on an assault. they knew. they're not fucking stupid, they're at U of C. Ban all frats, just .... fuck this.

I think frats should be banned from campuses for the same reason I want ICE abolished: I think impunity factories are bad, actually.

If you can't see a direct line from frat culture to ICE, DOGE and the gleeful violation of consent in various tech, sport & finance circles, I don't know what to tell you.

For decades frats have molded & promoted a culture of sexual assault, violence, hazing & impunity, some wielded against their own members but most deployed toward powerless outsiders, many of them women. They got a long time to prove they're really about anything else & they failed. Ban them.

for decades of my adult life, in stories about rape, hazing, alcohol poisoning, death and other violence, I've had to read statements from frat governing bodies about their commitment to public service, community goods and molding men into leaders, and my entire considered response is: Fuck OFF

I'm just so fucking done with this shit. ban all frats, launch them all into the sun.

banning them all, forever, and ejecting any student who joins an off-campus frat, is not the entire solution, but it's a fucking start.

Free speech laws turn out to be pretty important. Hats off to Sally Rooney for sticking to her guns on this.
