Ukraine blows up Russian data centres and immediately and mysteriously online talk about Germanyβs Far Right AfD virtually disappears. Stop Putin you stop the Far Right.
Of course, done
There's always a silver lining!
Would love to be presented with evidence otherwise but yet to see anyone link the extraordinary and continual losses of almost all clubs in the EFL to this scandal. Wage inflation is an existential threat to football as we currently know it and few dare say it. Or even realise
Exactly right Although I'd probably extend it to Mr Scholar and 1983
But that's the point, it's where the wider game has been driven to. United dip into short-term debt facilities like a cookie jar when they never used it pre-2021. Spurs have gone from being one of the most sustainable clubs in England to Β£320m owner funding inside a year
Most disheartening development over the last week has been the ludicrous idea they're freedom fighters against an unfair system
City spent over Β£80m on Ayyoub Bouaddi. Gave him 10 mins today, 32 so far and they can afford to ease him in as they spent Β£241m on two other midfielders. He cost over Β£80m! Love them, loathe them, like them, don't mind them, you cannot argue it's in any way healthy for football
What many have not fully grasped is the sheer damage to the wider game done by pouring enormous sums in. Not just City - see Chelsea (twice), PSG - but it goes far beyond doing others out of trophies We hear endlessly of the PL's 'riches' but look at the absolute state of this
English football just finds itself in a completely ludicrous, damaging situation now. And it has been a very long time coming
If you need some pre-match reading...
Yeah, their net is on a par with United and Chelsea for the same period, and likely higher if we extend to the end of summer 2026
Amortisation and impairment
It does, just wages (full clubs), transfer and agent amortisation and impairments
For all this chatter Manchester City were only spending and have only spent as much as - or less! - than others...it's just not true
Final part of our Manchester City series is here and we're looking at the indicator likeliest to determine success: wages
How much bigger are City's wages than their standalone accounts show? By how much have they outspent everyone since the takeover?
Part three of our series on Manchester City's rule-breaking is here:
How much more than everyone else did they spend on transfers? How quickly did they leap beyond the rest? How did their riches immunise them against the impact of duds?
Me and you both and I will continue to caveat I'm no lawyer!
