My latest today on how strict adherence to the rules is killing Democrats while fascists take cities
Would recommend guys like Brooks read Ordinary Men by Christopher Browning. Or Being Present by Willy Schumann. Or just google Hannah Arendt's "banality of evil." It's not a big secret how utterly wrong his perspective is. It is well documented.
Holocaust survivors and educators rightly spent decades warning people about this. And they were keen to take Ossoff's side: Call out Nazis accurately, early and often. Do not let them gain a foothold. And always remember: The Holocaust did not begin with extermination camps. It ended with them.
The lesson of the Holocaust was not that it was a singular, unique event in human history. The lesson was that it can happen anywhere, anytime, under the right conditions.
People like Brooks seem to not understand that there was nothing special or exceptional about Nazi Germany. Nazis were ordinary people who behaved the way humans generally do under similar circumstances.
This common view reflects belief in a type of Jewish and German exceptionalism: That no people in history have ever been or will be more persecuted than Jews, and no people have ever been or can be more evil than leaders of Nazi Germany. The view is both ahistorical and extraordinarily dangerous.
The more combative Dems get, the more of this they will run into. It will be a coordinated wave of elite opinion, scolding them, tamping them down. The fight strategy *only* works if they are willing to bull their way through it, blow it off, mock it. (Their history does not raise one's hopes.)
Not only no culture, but no *commons*. The dependency on the capitalist overlords will be complete, because you can’t ask for help or context from others when there is no common frame of reference. This has already happened in coding, the first space where they destroyed the commons we’d all built.
If we're going to make Abdul El-Sayed answer for everything Muslims do, then we should ask every Christian politician whether they consider Jeffress a fake Christian or if they agree with him that public executions reflect Christian teaching and ideology
Ukraine blows up Russian data centres and immediately and mysteriously online talk about Germany’s Far Right AfD virtually disappears. Stop Putin you stop the Far Right.
Honestly, anyone who regularly breaks bread with Republicans is probably ill-suited to the tenor of campaign 2026-28 Democrats should be running.
Listening to David Axelrod tell @jonfavs that corruption arguments against Susan Collins are inadvisable demonstrates that a perpetual class of affluent consultants are ill-suited to a populist moment with widespread cynicism. Elites can't see each other's corruption!
At the end of the clip, after Emmer’s ridiculous, easily challenged answer: KARL: “Let’s turn to the midterms…” Beltway reporters are more afraid of asking follow-up questions than Mister Mxyzptlk is of saying his name backwards.
KARL: This idea of livestreaming an execution -- US Catholic Bishops called it 'a barbaric promotion of culture of death.' Are you in favor? EMMER: I'm so happy we have a president who will make a decision in the best interest of the people. He will hold the criminals and terrorists accountable.
Fortunately for President Trump, laws are only real if someone is willing and able to enforce them
Sorry, but are we still doing "look at the dapper white supremacist" in the year of our lord 2026? The president and vice president are the most important white supremacists in the world and they only wear suits.
Trump is the leader, but the party is behind him 100%. Any politician still identifying as a Republican after this is a Russia-first treason weasel.
It is, in fact, possible to impeach and remove President Trump from office next week. It won't happen, however, because Republicans also support Putin and Russia and agree with Trump.
Wow — listen to these new comments from Trump. Thanking Putin, trashing Zelenskyy, characterizing Russia as eager for peace and Ukraine as intransigent. The mask is totally off.
This isn't a case of abusing some loophole or misusing discretionary authority. The law is unambiguous and he's breaking it, simple as that. If Congress isn't going to do anything about breaking the law that already exists, passing another law to make it double-illegal accomplishes nothing.
It's already illegal. Congress banned it near-unanimously in 2022. That law allows the ban to be lifted only if Russia withdraws from Ukraine. He's simply breaking the law that's already on the books.
Republican US Rep Brian Fitzgerald tweets that he will introduce a bill to block purchases of Russian oil. Don Bacon (R-Neb) tweets that he will co-sponsor. Obviously this won’t happen during campaigning recess (and Trump could veto anyway) but interesting push-back on Trump.
“The children who are randomly selected not to receive the birth dose of the vaccine, those who “lost the lottery”, face in their earliest days the risk of contracting hepatitis B, which can cause irreversible lifelong damage.” No words. I am speechless. This violates all ethical boundaries.
