“Women wearing short shorts to the gym does not make them whores. It makes the men calling them ‘whores’ misogynists.”

In light of world events, I'm going to take a break from LOLing about BC politics here for second and say this in earnest: it is a genuine privilege to live in a place where a political leader shows contempt for the population by calling an election two years early, as opposed to never

It was Rick Bell, I don't know why I'm being coy. I look forward to reading his piece! (He apparently had arranged this in advance, said the organizer. I had also emailed a couple of times last week but they "didn't see" my emails, which is why I just showed up.)

For the record, since this story says media was denied access, I also tried to attend and as I was waiting in the hallway for an organizer (who said go away) I saw a certain scribbler from this very paper leaving the main room and was told he had an arrangement with the premier to hear her speak.

Martin Patriquin isn't buying Danielle Smith's belief that a referendum will settle the separatism debate: "The idea that this issue is just going to go away because the Alberta separatists lose a referendum on a referendum is pure delusion."

"The next day, the Bradford campaign attempted to connect me with a former staffer. After I described the allegations in this story, the staffer decided not to go on the record."

Alberta’s premier lavishes praise on Ottawa for how much it collaborated with the province before making new court appointments, days before Alberta’s referendum Q that proposes to constutionally overhaul the way judges are picked. (bonus, surely, that one new judge was her deputy Justice minister)

I didn’t know who to attribute for the creation of this (should have looked more carefully).
Well framed, @robsonfletcher.com! And talk about using data to tell a story. If that’s the kind of help you’re looking for, it looks like Robson’s your person.

The timeline of western alienation may be long, but for so many Alberta separatists their trajectories really began in 2020 and 2021, with COVID.

Also worthwhile to point out that the Edmonton’s shadow council (read those who ran for office but lost last year) is commending Smith for following through on their campaign promises. Here’s two examples but I think there’s more.

11 days before the Alberta referendum proposing that province, not feds, appoint Alberta's high-court judges, the federal Liberal govt named Danielle Smith gov's deputy minister of justice to Court of King's Bench.
