Common European badgers can grow up to a metre long and weigh as much as 24kg. Because they're stockily built with a lot of muscle, they can do serious damage when they want to. They're the largest wild carnivores in the UK.

Life finds a way. Honestly, it's embalming that I find disgusting. The death of something as large as a human being allows all sorts of other life to thrive. The horror of individual loss is assuaged somewhat by that return of value to the biosphere. Embalming brings unnecessary death.

Since it remains the primary source of news for a great many people, that should concern us all a great deal.

What this incident tells us is not just that the BBC has a problematic attitude to trans people, which we knew, but that it is willing to present its viewers with a false version of reality.

Those people in the bottom section of the responses taking this as another opportunity to slander trans people and supporters of equality should ask themselves how they can be confident that the BBC isn't also censoring things they consider important.

What research has found is that people like that do experience empathy, but with a narrow focus. They reject the claims of the child because they are empathising with the accused adult, who is someone they seem to have more in common with.

I get that uncanny valley thing from them. They look like imitation realdolls.

I remember going to a church jumble sale with my partner when I was twenty and chatting to the guy running it. He suddenly spotted a book on a shelf - a guide to recovering from abuse - and said, in a horrified voice, "I don't know how that got there!"

So much this. And it's one in ten of us. Unfortunately, we're not rare. We deserve to have media that speaks to us. In some cases it could be life-saving. It's quite possible to design stories in a way that helps us without traumatising other children.

There are lots of people involved, so there are probably lots of different reasons.
