New books just dropped for Oct 2026!!
(or, actually, they dropped in Sept... but I only found out about them now!)

Apollonius of Rhodes needs more love. Very glad to see Dr. Scodel and so many others looking at him further.

Follow for more ancient book recs :)

Such a great show/podcast!!! He does a fantastic job

Have you ever watched the original season of “Qin Empire”? Used to be on Netflix but they took it away :( It’s basically an encomium for Legalism. Every other scene is “this legally doctrine is great and here’s why.” It’s so so interesting, a great show, and a fantastic cultural artifact

I’m sure you’ve gotten this Q a lot, but do you ever plan to go back and add more eps to the earlier time periods, Hist of Egypt-style?

@alexandriapod.bsky.socialSep 30, 2026, 7:25 PM

Thanks for the shoutout :) I somehow totally missed it’s the International Day of Podcasts! I’ll have to figure out something special.

Also another great example: Buck Bumble for N64

@alexandriapod.bsky.socialSep 29, 2026, 2:07 AM

I think one of the more famous examples is Ducktales (although that might be just “The Moon” track) Burning Rangers is also pretty much only remembered today for its soundtrack afaik.

In 338 BCE, the Athenians were destroyed at the Battle of Chaeronea. But one Athenian, Isocrates, begged King Philip II not for mercy… but to please, FINALLY, invade Persia already!

Hear Isocrates' OWN WORDS on Ep. 6b of Alexandria: AHW, wherever you get your podcasts :)

338 BCE. A 98-year-old philosopher starves himself to death right in the center of Athens. That man: Isocrates, the most ardent proponent of Pan-Hellenism.

Why is he starving himself? Find out in Ep. 6 of Alexandria: A Hellenistic World Podcast!!!!

Some great new books dropped this very month, September 2026!

My favorite is a new translation of Plutarch's "De Auditu", an essay on the power of active listening (relevant to podcast listeners like myself!).

(There are some and they are very good, but definitely not enough to meet the demand!)

@alexandriapod.bsky.socialSep 15, 2026, 9:47 AM

Someone should do something about this

This isn't a rant with a purpose, I don't have some larger thesis here, except that I think this speaks again to both 1) the real demand for this kind of historical content and 2) the failure of trained historians to deliver it, leading to 3) efforts by enthusiastic but untrained amateurs to do so.

@alexandriapod.bsky.socialSep 10, 2026, 1:13 AM

Is that the one by Trey the Explainer? It’s great!!

So long as we - as a field - regard producing a historical argument that thousands of people can read as somehow 'lesser' than producing a historical argument that only dozens of people will read, we're going to continue to struggle to maintain ourselves.

@alexandriapod.bsky.socialSep 6, 2026, 9:01 PM

I don’t :) my workflow is so quick I don’t think there’d be enough time between writing my draft and recording the pod ep!
