We got the big stinkeye from the primary school principal when our son turned up to graduation with a (very neat, not-at-all controversial) 'Ronaldo' style. Our boy looked cool as hell. The principal was ropable. We just smiled.

My mum loved to put flowers in my hair on the festival days - about twice a year. The teachers insisted I take them off!

I know the feeling. Every year we would dutifully attend their festivals- Easter, Xmas etc. But come Chinese New Year, we'd rush to put on our outfits and complete the traditions before changing back into school uniforms for the rest of the day. Our festivals didn't count. 😖

at my daighters ex school the vice principle had a draw of consficated jewellery he would show to a girl as he confiscated her jewellery. he's a fucking sicko. 

And there are always far more rules for girls than for boys. Jewellery, makeup, hair, nails, skirt length, sock height, shoe heel height (!) etc.

Yes, they always seem to sweat the small things. Aiming to belittle, and thus is starts 😟

As a school prefect, we each had to take our turn on the uniform roster, policing sock heights, skirt heights, hair ribbon colours etc. It's only in retrospect I realise how damaging that was for role modeling, school culture, internalised misogyny etc.

If there's one thing petty teachers/principal's LOVE more than anything else, it's enforcing pointless 'rules'. Petty dictator Principal at local HS was absolutely rabid for sock enforcement.

The duvet cover was large enough for me to tie a loose knot between the zip and the Lego as a backup, though it wasn't needed- the zip held up fine.

I was briefly a home room teacher in a state school for seniors and I just did not ‘police’ that trivial stuff. Would have loved to see the teacher’s face when he read your email. Those rules absolutely give teachers permission to control students and abuse that power.

Oh THIS! I was so annoyed about it when my kids were little. Let them play how they want! Far better for their neuronal circuits in the long run.
