Make sure to tell a convention near you that you’d like to see me there — Penguin Random House picked up worldwide rights to my books and I’d like to do more events that are outside of North America.
I love that you're calling it the Shitshow, which ironically means it will turn out better than most shows that pretend they aren't shitshows but always, always are. 👀
And if you can’t make it to Toronto next weekend or Richmond in November, I’ve started to post my 2027 schedule at effinbirds.com/appearances
As always, if your local convention isn’t on my list, make sure to let them know how much you’d like to see me there as a guest. Fan requests mean a lot!
As always, signatures and dedications are free, so bring your Effin’ Birds books etc. Time permitting, I offer extremely reasonably priced drawings in your books, or books you buy from me, or on little 4x6 art boards (if I still have some).
I have four new Effin’ Birds projects coming out over the next 12 months, and I’ll have previews of all four of them with me, including artists proofs and some original art for sale.
And if you want a copy of Greetings From Effin’ Birds, I’ll have copies for sale at the show, for the same $35 that the VIP ticket costs. So, just doing the math, that VIP ticket is a bargain. I’ll also have books, 2027 calendars, playing cards, and a bunch of surprises. Pro tip: bring loonies.
My contributions to the VIP bag: cursed Effin’ Birds merch from the past! Every VIP gets a copy of 2021’s Greetings From Effin’ Birds, a postcard book from my bankrupt UK publisher who owe me £74,000, and a vintage Effin’ Birds pin that spent years lost in the Berlin airport. Really!
The Toronto Shitshow is next weekend. Join me and a couple dozen of the snarkiest artists around for a free, one day market at the Parkdale Hall starting at 10am.
A handful of VIP tickets are still available if you want a bag full of great swag and a guaranteed entry time.
They should be offering it — are you not seeing it in the dropdown menu?
Am I ready for whatever shit 2027 has to throw at me? Absolutely not. But do I have a 2027 @effinbirds.com calendar? Yes, yes I do.

Sadly my French is too good and I know all the right ways to misuse “fuck” in French
Maybe the generous view is that they’re attempting to match an “industry standard” without understanding the reasons or motivations behind that standard.
So I wonder if it’s just an attempt to match an industry standard, or more nefariously, to limit ISBNs to books from major publishers. Even as a die hard AI hater, I think this is an unnecessary step.
Seem to be matching major publisher contracts — because of the copyright status of AI generated material, I’ve had clauses in my last couple of contracts that ask me to affirm that I didn’t use AI to write or illustrate. (A more reasonable ask from a publisher, though, since they’re buying rights.)
I love when my faves like my faves
