@hamiltonnolan.bsky.socialIf you were inventing "selling nonfiction books" from scratch, you would 1) put out paperbacks first, 2) price them as cheaply as possible, and 3) do heavy, ongoing online and in person promotions closely tailored to a writer's specific audience. Big publishers typically do none of these things.

Seems like somebody would drop them $5 mil once in a while! If you are rich this is a good idea.
@hamiltonnolan.bsky.socialMost interesting part of this story is DSA has only $4.7 mil in assets meaning that a large gift could do an incredibly outsized amount of good, as opposed to donating that money to Democrats. Surprising to me no rich Hollywood lefties are writing big checks to DSA.
