funny how the stakes might progress over a series, isn't it
the Apex Magazine 2027 kickstarter is at $9,287 out of their $21,000 base goal! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
at $22,000 we get a STRANGE OCEANS anthology (I want that)
at $26,00 we get an ESL/EFL special issue (I want that)
at $31,000 we get MORE APEX (I want that)
According to Kickstarter tracking service, Kicktraq, the LIGHTSPEED + NIGHTMARE campaign is trending toward only reaching 94% of our goal. So WE STILL NEED YOUR HELP. If you love SF, fantasy, and horror short fiction, please consider backing today and sharing this post. bit.ly/LS-NM-26
SO. CUTE.
Ahh! Booksellers and librarians, Broomsticklers is up on Edelweiss!! This is the first in a highly illustrated early MG series, and I hope you love it as much as I do :)
A short but lovely piece by the editor-in-chief of Foreward Reviews:
Agree. And honestly, imo, the most effective thing is their top-selling authors deciding to take a very public stand and refuse to work with them until changes are made.
Just a reminder that when you boycott publishers because you are mad at them it primarily punishes the people who are published with them and has little impact on their bottom line. (This does not apply in union contexts where workers are asking people to not cross a picket.)
I said that to one of the people boycotting and was told, "Too bad." Thanks, I guess?
I think it’s more than a little suspicious how non-South Asians have virtually ignored the seismic protest movements in South Asia.
99c across all platforms! And 99p for UK friends :)
Right? Letting people enjoy things is not at odds with delving thoughtfully into said things. Just the opposite, actually.
One of my favorite movies.
To mark the twentieth anniversary and new 4K theatrical re-release of the mythical Pan’s Labyrinth, Guillermo del Toro tells Dan Mecca about the deep magic and great pain of his beloved film, which he explains “almost killed me.” https://boxd.it/3pG
*sigh*
Whenever I worry about how many copies of my books I sell, this will continue to re-assure me that I am, in fact, doing okay!
I know things are Bad. But every time I get a chance to hang out and chat with people, I'm always reminded that most people are lovely and our communities are our strength.
Tagging @leannareneehieber.bsky.social so she sees this! (Obviously she would completely agree.)
Thank you for this! I've been advocating for that ever since I started writing professionally. We do ourselves--and the world--a huge disservice by ignoring huge swathes of our ancestral stories. Plus they're just so fun!
