oh the church ones? that was wild. i was thinking the ones who have died who were v active in 2020, most kind of mysteriously e.g.

@jesspish.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 6:32 PM

i agree, it points to a real problem.

@jesspish.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 6:16 PM

trying to mollify my critics who accuse me of not providing concrete policies lol

@jesspish.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 6:15 PM

💯

@jesspish.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 6:09 PM

it really points more to the "baronial class" superstatus of police, which is why they need defunding and reduced political power.

@jesspish.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 6:05 PM

a good question

@jesspish.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 6:03 PM

To me, he seems like the typical "well trained" DHS agent. (We don't know anything more than that he was there and that journalists have been tracking him.)

@jesspish.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 6:03 PM

I see a lot of this information going around without attribution to the journalists. @wired.com reported on Brenden Cuni, who was present in NY and has a history of violence. He has been with CBP and then ICE for a decade.

@jesspish.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 5:56 PM

the problem it points to is v real. although the comments are all like, this is why we should talk civilly. 🫠

@jesspish.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 5:53 PM

well, it might be both two-bit and long lol

@jesspish.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 5:53 PM

when i listed it, i thought, huh okay maybe i'm not THAT unreasonable lol

@jesspish.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 5:38 PM

probably heresy, but the whole "rape kit" as a concept feels like an intentional punishment for victims. the process is horrible. and then they act like, oh no, we are too poor to go through all these swabs. give me a break. victims suffered because YOU said they had to.

@jesspish.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 5:34 PM

omg don't get me started on that one

@jesspish.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 5:33 PM

sorry you got my long dissertation on the state of journalism.

@jesspish.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 5:32 PM

the only pubs that seems to be making money are the atlantic and the nyt which says a lot...

@jesspish.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 5:32 PM

yeah. really we need a better ecosystem of journalism that pays a living wage to more people. the quick pivot away from anything like DEI is catastrophic and probably contributes to the need to overweigh the right-wing view. even though many publications are doing a good job. (hammer & hope etc)

@jesspish.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 5:25 PM

the industry is in a real pickle, and i try to uplift good journalism (which i did not do here, lol) because it's a tough slog getting tougher.

@jesspish.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 5:21 PM

i think the nyt does a lot of important work and a lot of the journalists there are admirable. (they also employ like 10% of all print journalists or something.) if they offered me a job, i would take it. i also think they dominate the market and do a lot of political reporting that's....you know.

@jesspish.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 5:17 PM

i confess the author is not one of my faves because, in the past, he has called me to ask about my reporting with the intent to use it without attribution. so i am biased.
