Someone with more sense than Pete Hegseth, who has lost all bearings of what it means to lead, should step in and stop the public airing of this event.

Now, an on-camera death will make him a martyr and cause célèbre enshrined in history. This is likely the very last thing I imagine the families of the slain would want.

Just as terrorist groups used on-camera executions as propaganda for their cause, this video will be used in recruitment videos by America's enemies for decades to come. It also gives Hasan exactly what he likely wanted when he walked onto Ft. Hood and started shooting.

This has never happened before in America, and for good reason — it's the kind of thing we got used to seeing from the Taliban or ISIS, not the U.S. military.

@slotkin.senate.govOct 9, 2026, 10:03 PM

Nidal Hasan's crimes at Fort Hood were horrific. His actions destroyed families and he deserves no sympathy. But Pete Hegseth's decision to livestream his execution is not about Mr. Hasan — it's all about all of us.

If you hear in the next few days that there is a new security threat that you've never heard of that requires federal law enforcement or the military, an alarm bell should go off in your brain. Do not let him get away with that.

@slotkin.senate.govOct 9, 2026, 12:01 PM

And the authoritarian playbook is very clear. When you're at risk of losing, you either make up a threat that only you can protect the American people from or find a way for federal law enforcement or the military to seize ballots or voting machines.

The President is already using every tool at his disposal to intervene in our elections this November.

We’ve relied on norms and traditions for years to keep leaders in check, but now that those norms have been tested and broken, it’s clear we need stronger laws in place.

The TV ads that President Trump was running during football games were airing across the country, and there are serious questions about the use of taxpayer dollars to pay for them.

@slotkin.senate.govOct 8, 2026, 12:15 AM

This isn't the only time in our country's history that we've had a rough period, even if it sometimes feels that way. About every generation we have an existential moment like the one we're having. So, how do we get through it?

@slotkin.senate.govOct 7, 2026, 1:58 PM

Today, I’m thinking about the families who lost loved ones that day, the hostages and their families who endured years of uncertainty, and the communities that are still carrying the scars of that attack.

@slotkin.senate.govOct 7, 2026, 1:58 PM

Today marks three years since Hamas perpetrated the October 7 terrorist attack that killed nearly 1,200 Israelis, took 251 more hostage, and set off a chain of events that those in the Middle East — and back home in Michigan — are still grappling with.

A house is the most visible part of the American dream. If people can’t buy their first home, they get stuck.

Case in point: when we started reaching out to organizations to host this speech, institution after institution declined 'cause they were afraid Trump would go after them because of these words.

@slotkin.senate.govOct 6, 2026, 11:45 PM

One of the key tools authoritarians use is fear. Just think about what Trump has done to institutions that don’t bow down to him.

In our Intel Briefing this week, I focused on four things: 1️⃣ Where are we on manufacturing jobs in Michigan 2️⃣Don Jr’s Russian-oligarch-funded wedding 3️⃣The anniversary of the Grand Blanc tragedy and what we can do now 4️⃣The President’s taxpayer funded TV ads

For example, electricity bills keep climbing. That's because AI companies are building data centers that guzzle power, and President Trump is giving them tax breaks to do it.

@slotkin.senate.govOct 5, 2026, 11:15 PM

We need to make clear to the public that corruption at the top is taking money directly out of their pockets. When Trump gains, you lose.
