i don't know. i can't remember ever setting foot inside a tournament venue and thinking "you know what i like about this tournament? all the money they spent on it." and at points in my life i've been good enough that finishing in the money was a real possibility so it's sure as hell not just that

i don't have a fully-formed thought on this exactly but i feel like a lot of people lost the plot and forgot that it's good enough to do shit just because you want to do it. like so many people in the fgc right now are old enough to remember piling into minigolf places to play mvc2 for mvc2's sake
