I found a Dolce & Gabbana blazer in a chazza called "Harringtons" in Highgate which has been a wardrobe staple of mine ever since, so much so I think it's probably looking too shabby to wear now.

Today I learnt something about Mike & Angelo which blew my mind.

It is much more fun and satisfying to find it yourself in a shop, I agree. This is why, even though I could buy almost any book or record I like on eBay, I go to charity shops and second hand places and see what's there.

@eddierobson.bsky.socialOct 14, 2026, 8:27 AM

Ideally I prefer to buy stuff in shops but it really depends where you are - I've bought more clothes from charity shops on my visits to London than I have in Lancaster in the last ten years. Most stuff here is either old people clothes or not my size. Whereas I've found a ton of stuff on Vinted.

The first episode is very clearly trying to capture the tone of 2001, yeah. Whereas the first of season 2 is pure Star Trek. bsky.app/profile/rayn...

@eddierobson.bsky.socialOct 14, 2026, 8:15 AM

Maybe? I agree, Buck Rogers was more fun and Blake's 7 had more to say, and it falls between those stools.

The other episode had Brian Blessed in it, and he did not talk quietly or calmly. In fact the difference in tone between a workplace drama set on the moon, and an encounter with a space lord with a psychedelic supercomputer and his beautiful daughter who can turn into animals, was marked.

It's fascinating to me how many people in the SFF literary sphere - including professional critics & scholars who should know better - assess adaptations primarily as successes & failures of reading rather than separate texts w/ their own aims, which Gerwig's The Magician's Nephew clearly is.

@eddierobson.bsky.socialOct 14, 2026, 8:04 AM

It seemed like everyone had been directed to be so naturalistic that it sapped the urgency of it, everyone talking quietly and calmly, even Prentis Hancock. Also the big explosion should happen by the halfway point really, and present immediate problems for them to solve by the end of the episode.

Having never watched Space: 1999 before, I went to watch a double bill of the first episode of each season in 4k at the cinema last night. Design work looked lovely, but that first episode is quite underpowered dramatically considering it's about the moon being torn out of orbit by an explosion.

If you can forgive me wheeling this Brian Blessed story again, here’s what he does for an audience of two:

#RecipeOfTheDay is the comforting Welsh fruited tea loaf, Bara Brith, to be eaten spread so generously with butter that the Danes would call it tandsmør, which is to say, butter spread thickly enough that you leave teeth marks in it after taking a bite! www.nigella.com/recipes/bara...

nigella.comBara BrithI have a particular fondness for Bara Brith, the traditional Welsh fruit-speckled tea bread. My late sister Thomasina lived and worked in Wales, and my first taste of it came courtesy of her next door...

Every time I read that story I like to think of Moore doing his piece to camera and all the while thinking "I could have said... But if I go back to him afterwards and say..."

@eddierobson.bsky.socialOct 14, 2026, 7:08 AM

Blessed is the man who appreciates the joy of doing a really good bit, even if - maybe especially if - it's for an audience of one.

Ah yes, perhaps the most beloved literary trope of all: the classic McMuffin

A screenshot that reads: Moore throws in a Hitchcock-style McMuffin in the shape of a secret tape recording which will reveal just who has been betraying the gangsters.
The problem is that no-one has a machine on which to play it.

Just rewatched the first episode of GLOW. I'm pretty sure Alison Brie has been made up to look slightly malnourished in this.

Prompts a fun question: whats the most niche historical inaccuracy in a piece of work that annoys you Not like 'oh they were referring to the wrong king' , more 'they had the wrong king on a banknote in one scene'

Manga page from the way of the house husband, written and illustrated by Kousuke Oono, where Masa (an underling of the main character former gang) says “I’ve never used chat got in my life” and his aura is so powerful it burst out of him and push away all the other members of the gang.

(Original text says “I’ve never smoked a cigarette in my life”)
