Finished Silent Hill F. An incredibly strong story and aesthetic that's dragged down by over-reliance on repetitive combat and keeping too many cards to it's chest. Having spoiled myself I'm torn on the multiple playthroughs to unlock and synthesize the various strands of theme and symbolism.

We love the Minnesota State Fair, and this year's cake decorating theme was board games! Here are a few of our favorites for #NationalCakeDecoratingDay.

Might be best to push on TBH so you can get the point of understanding what's going on. The end is a pretty mind-numbing combat gauntlet though, I get the point of it but it's fairly one-note

The first ending is incredibly upsetting and ambiguous but in ways I think are pretty consistent with the horror genre. I'm not particularly interested in how the subsequent playthroughs change the story but they do retroactively strengthen the meaning in the initial story.

New notebook means new stickers!

A notebook with several stickers on the cover, one with an orange cat holding a large d20 showing 1, an illustration of old Gameboy casing turned into a storefront, a turnip playing a Gameboy and a retro sci fi stamp

Likewise, I didn't really have the patience (or friends) for the traditional Monster Hunter structure. Having a story framing and motivation would certainly help push me through it, but it's still a substantial commitment to learn it's systems.

Crimson Desert is a game built on the idea that it's better to give someone 10,000 Twinkies because oink oink fuck you piggie rather than sit down to make one single made-to-measure cake. It fundamentally thinks the player is a moron.

I think I accidentally tuned into the frequency where all ads are made by AdultSwim

Alien Isolation! Replayed it for Halloween last year and it definitely holds up much better than Bioshock.

Here is another amazing example of the kinds of games to expect from ProtoCON. This is Cavern Shuffle by Gravy Boat Games.

Cavern Shuffle is a single player, solitaire inspired, dungeon crawler card game. We recommend checking them, and their game, out!

Go to gravyboatgames.com for more info!

Cavern Shuffle (Lair of the Lich)

Curios about what kind of games you'll see at ProtoCON?

Take a look at Cavern Shuffle by Gravy Boat Games.

other decor and art from the game Cavern Shuffle surrounds the text.Based on the classic Solitaire, Cavern Shuffle is a solo-player dungeon delver game.

where the player must level up their party in order to uncover the dark twists and turns of the dungeon.

More art from the game is includedThe setup is very similar to the Classic Solitaire with the seven piles in front of you forming the Dungeon.

However variations in gameplay differ depending on the edition of cavern shuffle you have.Play is centered around forming sequences with your four Adventurers and leveling them up into the Party piles at the top.

Leveling up your Adventurers will in turn help you complete different Encounters in the Dungeon until you are strong enough to beat the boss and win the game!

Spoke with two members of @uwotc-official.bsky.social's MTG Arena team who told me what supporting the D&D and MTG unions will look like: education, collaboration, and innoculation against propaganda.

Also, apparently the union-avoidant messaging within WotC never really stopped.

I've regularly referred to Instagram specifically as a game I refuse to play (meta's politics aside). It's partly the frustration of the ever-changing rules, but mostly the psychological hijacking of our values, warping our creations in chasing fulfillment from likes rather than the creation itself.

We have learned of a website (which we are not linking to) that is charging people to pay to play knockoffs of popular board games like Catan, Wingspan, Agricola and more - different names, crappy art, same mechanics.

A timely reminder that parasocial indies are not a replacement for job security, for industry stability. Their recent Kickstarter made me wary of how it plays into this cult of personality that insulates them from scrutiny.

Just played the third scenario last night. Love it, but it does still feel a little susceptible to spending 5 minutes at the start trying to math out the optimal placements, it's hard to live in the moment when there are stickers on the line.

I'm way overdue to rewatch Tampopo, its an incredible representation of the universal reflected through the specific, in how we experience food. Except for the egg perverts.
