@armadajosh.bsky.social...I think I kind of just don't like clocks, emotionally? I get why they exist, and I've included them in my own games for perfectly good reasons, but I personally find them an irritating speed bump. This realization about "great effect" makes them seem even less useful.
@armadajosh.bsky.socialFor 4-clocks, it never has any mechanical impact. It never changes how many rolls it took you to complete the clock. For 6- and 8-clocks, it can have a mechanical impact but this is presumably pretty rare.
@armadajosh.bsky.socialWeird thing I just noticed about clocks in FITD. For any even-numbered clock, getting great effect (three ticks marked) has no mechanical impact, unless it either happens twice, or happens alongside another roll that has limited effect (one tick marked).
@armadajosh.bsky.socialI say don't worry about it. Bennies exist to incentivise certain behaviour (which they still do even when hoarded) and to enable players to nudge the odds when it matters most (which hoarding actually occasionally helps with). It's fine! Let them have their hoard.
@armadajosh.bsky.socialNah, I disagree. If you hoard bennies then you value them. True, you're wasting them, but the incentive clearly still exists or else you wouldn't hoard them.
