Wow that Nathan Fielder doc looks like it’s gonna make some real money

variety.com/2026/film/bo...

A24’s much-hyped Elizabeth Holmes documentary “You Can See Everything” landed in second place on Friday, grossing $5.54 million on Friday from 855 North American theaters. Per rival estimates, the film looks to add $12.45 million by Sunday, exceeding initial estimates of a $7 to $8 million opening weekend. The documentary should overtake Amazon MGM’s “Melania,” which landed the biggest opening for a non-music or concert doc in over a decade with $7.1 million from 1,778 theaters.

I don’t disagree that AI and security are real issues that need to be addressed, but the “one shot” comment implies that they aren’t putting in the work. There are hundreds of people contributing on the project. So the jury’s still out on that, IMHO.

@ernie.tedium.coOct 17, 2026, 2:28 PM

FWIW I’ve been keeping an eye on the project’s GitHub and there are a lot of folks contributing at this time, and it has built a lot of support tooling in the past couple weeks. The maintenance and security questions come down to the org structure and support the project ultimately builds.

I think reading your point again you're mostly arguing that ArtCraft can be copyrighted, not that it's violating Adobe’s copyright.

@ernie.tedium.coOct 17, 2026, 12:35 PM

He also makes an argument near the top of the piece that even if the software was traditionally coded it would still pass muster, citing Google's use of Java in Android.

From a purely copyright perspective, the Artcraft apps are likely on decent footing. Copyright protects software code, not functionality. Copying some code to ensure interoperability with the original software is not a copyright infringement, as per the Google v. Oracle ruling. So even if elements of the file formats were reverse‑engineered and copied, that wouldn’t likely amount to a copyright infringement.

As long as everything said about these apps is true, the Artcraft apps should be able to defeat traditional copyright infringement claims.

This is not an argument the article makes. One shotting I don't believe has an effect on whether something can be copyrighted.

I was looking for a nuanced take on the Adobe clone situation from an “is this legal” standpoint, and I think this is as good as it gets. Nice work by @plagiarismtoday.com. www.plagiarismtoday.com/2026/10/14/c...

Because there aren’t enough $4,000 AI boxes on the market, here’s another one. But at least it has a processor we’ve never seen before. And is apparently pocketable.

It’s probably because I'm not a Nathan Fielder fan, that this movie didn't resonate with me. He is often a pretentious and obnoxious, half-assed director, who relies too heavily on embarrassing unknowing participants, and this film is no exception. Please go away

Noodling…would anyone be interested in sponsoring a lil blogging contest on a given topic / prompt? @leaflet.pub could cosponsor & promote & give the winner leaflet pro I think it'd be fun & no need to be some huge thing, could be like $100, ideally we try a few Reply if that sounds interesting!
