With US measles cases at a 35-year high and vaccination rates continuing to decline, babies too young to be vaccinated and immunocompromised people are increasingly at risk.
Treatments may soon be necessary to protect them. My latest for @wired.com: www.wired.com/story/measle...
I don't think we can understate the implications of non-invasive brain-computer interfaces and the fact that so many of these startups are popping up.
My latest for @wired.com: www.wired.com/story/bridge...
I know everything is bad, but check this out: Using miracle material for which its founder won the chemistry Nobel last year, a startup has built a working device that can harvest clean water from air using the heat emitted from a data center. @mollytaft.com and @blkahn.bsky.social have the scoop:
Thanks, Melody!
Measles cases are over 1,000 in Pennsylvania.
US hospitals and health systems that haven't seen this disease in decades now have to consider what happens when a suspected measles patient walks through the door. www.wired.com/story/measle...
"When the measles vaccine arrived, and measles cases fell, deaths from other infectious diseases fell along with them"
Measles virus infection erases immune memory
When you have people with measles or suspected measles coming into doctor's offices, it creates absolute chaos for staff and other patients.
This is the new normal as measles returns. www.wired.com/story/measle...
A health system in South Carolina that dealt with a measles outbreak earlier this year didn't have enough negative pressure rooms to isolate patients so staff had to manually convert regular hospital rooms. www.wired.com/story/measle...
Something I learned while reporting this story is that most hospitals don't have the ability to test for measles in-house. www.wired.com/story/measle...
NEW from me: The resurgence of measles in the US is forcing hospitals and health systems to adopt new protocols and procedures to deal with a disease they haven't seen in decades. www.wired.com/story/measle...
The Pennsylvania Department of Health just confirmed a 5th measles-related death. This really suggests that the outbreak is a lot bigger than the official numbers. The average case fatality rate for measles is about 1 to 3 deaths per 1,000 reported cases in developed countries.

Calling AI "super intelligence" is a big Trump talking point right now. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. used it several times in a MAHA speech yesterday - adding that HHS uses it the most of any federal agency www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...
CDC finally updated its stats on measles-associated deaths this year but is only counting two when Pennsylvania has reported four. www.cdc.gov/measles/data...
“She had bought raw goat milk from a farm recommended to her in a Facebook group run by her chiropractor”. “Marris believed she had done her due diligence. She had researched raw milk…” Her baby ended up in the ICU with a life-threatening E. coli infection.
Russell Brand, who's awaiting trial in London next month on rape and sexual assault charges, will moderate a panel at DC's MAHA summit tomorrow on reforming a U.S. health agency
“When I was in kindergarten in 1961, I survived a near-fatal case of measles… my clearest memory of that period is my father carrying me to our station wagon & rushing me to the hospital. I stayed for a month, part of it in a coma, my blood pressure dangerously unstable” @jackiantonovich.bsky.social
Meta's new AI agent wanted my passport info. Not to help me. To train on me.
Actually, it wanted everything: bank accounts, email inboxes, ID info.
No surprise coming from Meta. But always worth reminding readers that AI automations come with major privacy risks.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health has confirmed two new measles-related deaths, bringing the total to four. www.pa.gov/agencies/hea...
NEW: The 40-year-old woman who died of probable measles in PA was not vaccinated and had COPD & 24/7 oxygen. She did not appear to die in a hospital.
The coroner is "100%" certain she died because of measles.
Yet the CDC changed the way it counts measles deaths www.theguardian.com/society/2026...
How do fewer recommended vaccinations in Denmark affect health? Children in Denmark unfortunately have a high rate of chickenpox In the US, the varicella vaccine has led to ~4 million fewer chickenpox cases, 10-12K fewer hospitalizations, & 100-120 fewer deaths each year
