This is good guidance from someone on the ‘other side’ of the polls. Yes, they mean something; but only when looked at from a little distance.

A quick update on @runforsomething.net endorsement criteria for 2027 & beyond (!!): With millennials getting older, we're expanding our age limits to anyone born in 1981 or after (as opposed to a hard cap at 40.)

For 10 years, Run for Something has been committed to recruiting and supporting the next generation of local leaders. In the beginning, our age requirement for receiving an endorsement included the vast majority of potential millennial and Gen Z candidates. But as we’ve all grown older, it’s time to expand that age criteria, especially as many of us across generations still continue to face the same challenges: student debt, climate instability, and rising prices. We also know that there are real world barriers that delay many from running for office – especially for women and people of color.
Because of this, today we’re excited to share that Run for Something will now consider candidates for endorsements who were born in 1981 or later – to include anyone millennial and Gen Z. This update also applies to the resources and mentorship programs for prospective candidates in our RFS Community previously available to only those under 40.

As we update our eligibility guidelines to be more equitable and inclusive, our mission remains unchanged. We are committed more than ever to recruiting and supporting young candidates, and first-time candidates in particular, who power change in their communities and build the bench for the next generation of candidates ready for higher office.

"Do not get suckered by someone who tells you, “Candidate X won, so that proves all Democrats should come from Candidate X’s wing of the party.” Or, “You can’t be a good candidate if you have views X, Y, and Z.” Those are exactly the wrong lessons of 2026." www.thebulwark.com/p/these-demo...

If vouchers are a live issue in a community, chances are pretty good there's a @runforsomething.net candidate running against them. It's one of the most common education issues we see people tackle.

Elect! More! Renters! www.marketwatch.com/story/locked...

America's renters are emerging as a
political movement
Housing policy has long prioritized homeownership. As young Americans face the prospect of renting indefinitely, more tenants are seeking political clout.Political groups are harnessing this angst. In early 2025, Run For Something, an organization that recruits and trains progressive millennial and Gen Z candidates for state and local office, launched an initiative that aims to get more renters elected.
Historically, candidates focused on policies like down-payment assistance that can make buying a house more affordable, but today, more 20- and 30-somethings are staring down at years or even decades of renting. "If you're only talking about making it easier to buy a home, young people are going to tune you outạỊAmanda Litman, co-founder of Run for Something, told MarketWatch. "When you get renters into office, it changes the tenor of debateẠỊ
Litman and other Run for Something staffers first began noticing that candidates in their pipeline were identifying themselves as renters around 2023. In some cases, people interested in running weren't sure if renting would be detrimental to their candidacy. After the activity surrounding the 2024 presidential election died down, Run for Something decided it made sense to build off momentum from areas like Minneapolis, Cambridge, Mass. and Austin, Texas, where elected renters had some success shitting zoning and other policy to be more renter-friendEven beyond policy prescriptions, having renter candidates embrace their tenant identity has been useful for connecting with young voters, Litman said.
If a candidate rents, it may telegraph to a voter where they are on the class spectrum, what generation they're in and the kinds of affordability challenges they're dealing with, she said.
"It's a way to signal 'I'm one of you, I get it, I live life the way that you do," she added. "I feel that sense of instability. I feel that sense of lack of access to the American DreamỊi

I'd suggest take whatever you plan on giving and do half to a state or local candidate and half to an org that you want to exist & thrive post-election day.

@amandalitman.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 12:56 PM

While House & Senate candidates are raising record amounts of $$, basically everything else in the Democratic ecosystem is struggling for cash. Gov races, state leg races, infrastructure groups, voter reg, comms efforts -- all of it. Invest smarter in the final stretch.
