An interesting new study has examined 20,736 scientific publications about climate tipping points. Several of those are estimated to be crossed around 1.5 degrees warming, i.e. any time soon: permafrost thaw, Greenland Ice Sheet, North Atlantic Subpolar Gyre.

Unverantwortlich. 😠

A new preprint from the UK Met Office, Hadley Centre and others has analysed Atlantic Ocean heat loss and finds it has declined over the last 30 years. That points to an #AMOC that has already started to weaken, as climate models have predicted. 🌊

A well-researched article from Politico on one of the major climate risks: the linked tipping points of the subpolar gyre #SPG and #AMOC in the Atlantic.
"There’s a substantial risk that it can happen within the coming 20 years,” says @swinda.bsky.social from Utrecht Uni about SPG collapse. 🌊 1/4

Great piece on the AMOC, with attention for the subpolar gyre. While AMOC collapse would take multiple decades, potential changes in the subpolar gyre could occur over 10-15 years and start as early as 2040. The impact won't be as severe as for AMOC, but this near-future risk warrants attention.
