What's happening is that a lot of stuff is starting to happen in real life again, and that stuff kind of slots onto the social media sites that best serve it. Got a race or class war? That's gonna be a Twitter thing right there. Somebody write your name wrong at Starbucks? Welcome to Threads.

Doing stuff that breaks through across platforms is really hard, and it's why so many people are interested in buying or changing the pipes. (The insane Warner Brothers deal, for one, or getting people nervous about AI.) What's interesting to me recently is there's reliance on old media to do it.

The cultural conversation is made on Instagram and YouTube now. (It was, for a minute in the transition from Twitter, made on TikTok, but not so much now.) Everyone kind of posts everywhere to meet their audiences, but cache is made on video sites. Social media writ large is kind of dying, though.
