Time for 2026 updates to my annual “opinions about solar” thread, now with storage. If you like these, you might like edition 2 of my book, Solar Power Finance Without The Jargon. A 30% discount code WSQ0437 is valid on publisher website til end of Nov 2026.

What might look like the notebook of a very organized person but is really the last ditch attempt using ever brain cell and coping strategy to overcome the side effects of the cancer meds and continue to function.

Leaving aside the fact that there is no evidence that there is some correct framing that would actually make any difference - this is a message clearly targeted at the cyclists afraid of dying (or seeing others die) to take action together.

they do and I love it I also love thinking about hte process of selective breeding that created these which I imagine as people asking, hmm does this grape taste more or less like cotton candy than this grape?

Heat pumps for 🇨🇦
(1 million homes is a bit over 5 or 6% of households in the country by my count)

Report back on how it is! I bought (and installed) our washer and dryer when I was pregnant and they are still going strong as my kids go into high school. I can’t wait to get a heat pump dryer and seal up that external vent.

@shastingssimon.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 5:29 PM

I understand the reluctance. Is your washer still working? You could keep it, get a combo that can in principle be used as the dryer but then also you guys can try out the combo without the firm commitment.

@shastingssimon.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 5:27 PM

No personal experience because mine are working fine but I have my eye on either the LG or GE combo when one of ours goes. I figure I can replace just the washer or dryer (with the bonus of not needing the 220v). Mostly because all of the other heat pump dryers Ive found are small by NA standard

Dying at this description. Have you considered walking around with a cut of meat tied around your head?

@shastingssimon.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 12:02 AM

aw 🥰 It's definitely supposed to be broadly accessible. This one is tomorrow at Mount Royal University (might be a bit far...) but if it goes well I will try it again in the future!

This talk is either going to be awesome or I will never be invited back but YOLO (of course I'm hoping its the first)

very possible ive gone too hard on the dragon analogy (mixed because now the dragons are the technology but 🤷‍♀️)

Dragon pictures on a slide.
The top two illustrate the challenge of incumbency bias with respect to the issues with new technologies (dragon with 3 heads breathing fire) being scary while the historical tech (stuffed dragon) we are used to and they seem fine.

The bottom is a dragon sitting at what appears to be a table for a fancy meal and illustrates the issue of measuring new technology with historical metrics that are not well adapted to what it can provide

how is it possible that 30% of 17 year olds are not allowed to leave their street without an adult (the sum of house, yard, street)? I don't dispute the underlying point that kids freedom is impacted by cars but that seems not credible for people 1 year away from being adults...

Labyrinth At my first ever sleepover. Made scarier by the fact the girl called Sara had a younger brother with the same (somewhat unusual) name as my little brother.

In Calgary you can call EFW here for example www.efw.ca
(This also all applies outside of AB but I just know these details).
If your report comes back as having dense breasts ask about having an ultrasound and yearly mammograms.

@shastingssimon.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 3:33 AM

🎀 if you live in alberta and are 45 or older and you haven’t already - call tomorrow to make a self referral to have a mammogram. If you are 40-44 ask your family doctor to refer you to have it done (starting next April you can self refer) - it just might save your life like it did mine
