Nice! Glad you're proud of it. Hope it goes well.
Hi-hi friends! Made a cover for horror short I'll be posting tomorrow. Gonna upload it tonight so it's all ready to go. One of my favorite shorts I've ever written.
Next onto more WIP 2 editing tonight! So excited to get it ready for next year!
Age yourself with a childhood crush.
Fr if you want to see all my dragons then you should be getting my newsletter. My short story collection introduces all of them, plus a bonus griffin who's recording them. It's free~
Yeah, and hey if you do stuff like that, at least make it interesting! For instance I read a story with a love triangle done right. Two women get on a reality show like "The Bachelor." They both formally dated the bachelor character. Turns out he's a piece of shit so they end up dating each other!
Good morning babes and besties #ScribesUnited
Sunday task list:
â˘Bank
â˘Shower
â˘Housemate interviews at 1
â˘Probably crash early today, Im wrecked from yesterday.
Iâve had a lot of real life days in a row I would really like a day to just escape into my writing.
It's a mental exercise for me. I try to get into my characters' heads. I imagine what kinds of things they notice. What do their senses tell them? What do they want at this moment? What are they going to do to get it? How do they feel about the people around them?
They are people to me, but I think they would understand. The story must be told!
Sure is! I think the polar dragons are the weirdest ones.
Yeah, going to have to buckle up, buttercup, as they say!
The first two. Hurts me to hurt them and I feel bad for hurting them.
I don't like cheap romance drama. In no particular order: miscommunication, third-act breakups, love triangles, the shit you find in rom-coms all the time. I'm sick of it. I'm a married woman in her 40s. I am over relationship drama.
I am really bad at gauging my own humor. Best I can do is try to crack a joke or make a scene funny and then ask for feedback. So I guess that's my advice? Get feedback!
Ooh, @joannamasters.bsky.social does an amazing job at this in "How to Be a Dragon"!
Not only is the narrator a character themselves, there's a whole meta-narrative that unfolds in the footnotes. It's brilliant!
(The book is great. You should read it.)
Any insight on how to be less of a wimp about conflict? Or I guess if you have any questions for me, ask away! I've been posting snips and stuff. Anything stand out that you'd like to know?
11) Craft questions
I am a wimp and have trouble writing people being mean to my characters, because I love them. I know that SOMETIMES people need to be mean to them or there is no conflict.
I am trying, in my WIP, to have the Alliance treat the Zadans like pets. It feels bad.
I think I'm pretty good at narrative/character voice, but I don't have specific insight into how I do it. I just... get into my character's head. I try to think like they do. I imagine what they would notice about a scene, what they would think about. What is their goal, in this moment?
Cousin
I thought I didn't have this word, but it turns out I do! Crystal (cave dragon) talks to another of Zada's dragonsâthe polar dragons.
I have 10 dragon species in total, btw.
Yep, and to boot I'm an environmental scientist. I see where the wind is blowing!
