if newspapers had focused on what the audience actually read the most, they would have been boiled down to the sports section and horoscopes looooong before the internet. the actual **lack of data** is what made newspapers, as a business, a social good.
my big-brain opinion about this is that newspapers as a concept worked because you didnt have granular data on what everyone was actually reading, so you couldn't chase "clicks." you hired an editor with taste and news judgment and that was that.
🧊✈️ SIGNATURE AVIATION doesn't want you to know that they *still* service ICE transport flights daily at airports across the country. In San Diego, they've tried to cover up their logo on these air stairs to avoid seeing more photos like the one on the right below 👀
I'm not saying we should go full USSR and build Palaces of Culture everywhere... ...but that might not suck
...because it's those bonds that end up reminding the once-kids, now-adults how to relate to real humans and not algorithm slop
Every kid should have a chance to be part of something and to form bonds with other kids doing the same thing. Sports, art, theater, music. The more we cut those or reserve them only for the rich, the poorer we all are...
Broader observation: we have also hollowed out schools by eliminating "non core" stuff. Less funding for libraries and music and art and theater deprives more and more kids of being part of a team.
This is also a problem downstream of the youth sports dystopia. The principal benefit of youth sports is ball knowledge. Ball knowledge helps you relate to people. Take that away and you end up with the modern political class
The photos of kids hauling carts of gear as big as they are make me angry

Hence my plan for year round school and state supported baseball in primary and early secondary school
“Frequent participation in baseball has fallen 28% since 2014 in families with annual incomes of less than $100,000…. In the same period, participation has increased 21% in families making more than $100,000”

Sigh. Baseball is effectively extinct in the wild
Have to be clear just how dangerous this is. If it continues, it effectively removes constitutional rights from an entire class of people. Imagine you had to fear that if you criticize the regime, any error on paperwork filled out by your family decades ago could be used to strip your citizenship.
KRISTI NOEM: I'm confident Ilhan Omar will finally be held accountable for her crimes? BENNY JOHNSON: What are those crimes? NOEM: When people apply to come to this country, if you go back and find that anything could be wrong or misrepresented, that's when it voids or cancels their citizenship
Grant.
