Forgot I have an entire translator's note due tomorrow and it's coming out in this really irritated tone and the fact that I'm writing it in Korean doesn't help because we have jondaemal (polite form) and when you have that you can say the MEANEST THINGS as long as you use polite conjugation
Don’t mute your India news, people! Monumental protests happening right now.

Personal hobbyhorse, but thinking about AI in publishing is really making me want criticism to go harder on discussing the actual style & substance of books. If we just talk about plot & vibes, we're leaving the door totally open, & missing out on the good stuff besides. "It's just words on a page."
"Glory to the youth" Seen in Paris during the ongoing student uprising across the country.
"OOH THEY'RE AN INDIE PUBLISHER" Mthrfkr do you know what PRH, HarperCollins, Hachette, Macmillan, and Simon & Schuster—all of whom I've published multiple translations with—have never taken from me? MY TRANSLATOR COPYRIGHT.
As translators we really don't nakedly hate Europa Editions *enough*. They shouldn't get a cookie for publishing translations. Fcuk this publisher.
So are we just not doing the WTO and FTAs now?
When I was an undergrad, I could take any course at any department and the professors would not bat an eye; I had a genetics professor be amused at best that a law student was taking his course but I was never discriminated against in any department. And if that's not how it is now, then 🤷🏻♂️
Just sheer, utter popularity. The staff are great! They should run the country
... so I am being excluded for not graduating from the departments that they themselves did not graduate from?? 😂 If this is the truth then the school has changed beyond recognition for me and yes, I probably shouldn't do anything with them, polluting my alma mater with their gross puritanism
I've delivered talks at more than half the Ivy League and even Yonsei (twice!) but Kodae has never once invited me to do anything and was told yesterday that it was because I didn't graduate from the literature departments. Which shouldn't matter, except the professors are mostly not from Kodae...
Also famous for making translators sign away the rights to their own translations. So they’re well on their way to not recognizing the humanity of translators, why wouldn’t they embrace the robot movement?
Thank you, Shanna!!!!
Shanna Tan, if I indeed am and you are translating me right now, can you change it in the translation so that I get my order in the next two minutes, luff youuuuuu
Yes it's my fault for going to a Gongcha but the library is closed for electrical upgrades (right in the middle of presentation and report-writing season, what perfect timing) and all of SNU Commons is shut down except, oddly enough, this Gongcha. Maybe I'm inside some k-healing fantasy novel
If I ever want to make a lot of money, I know I can always open a Gongcha franchise on Seoul National University campus, because I am sitting here on a Saturday and each order is taking 30 minutes. I can get a whole French meal served to me in that time

Now where have we seen this before I can't quite put my finger on it
I know I am about as biased as possible on this but go to an indie bookstore. An indie bookstore's vibes are the opposite of...all of this. You'll be surrounded by memories, stories, brave visions of the future that don't ignore our barbarous present. Your brain can be quiet AND full. Seriously.
