Misinformation is rife on social media and plays a key role in fuelling racist abuse, violence and even riots But the way we regulate it is - bluntly - rubbish In the second part of my look at social media regulation, I focus on our flawed approach to misinformation and how we might improve it:

chamindajayanetti.substack.comHow do you solve a problem like social media? Part II - misinformationMisinformation and disinformation are among the worst online scourges, with huge real-world impacts. Why are our regulations so weak? And are there risks in making them stronger?

genuinely one of the least valuable players out there

Nothing worse than ordering a sticky toffee pudding and then there's a globule of sauce and some bready cake.

@cjayanetti.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 10:28 AM

what I liked about him when his videos did the rounds on here a few months ago is that he correctly identified the single most important factor determining the success or failure of a sticky toffee pudding: MOAR SAUCE

still remember that having pride of place at Waterstones - this enormous brick of a book with pages and pages listing all the stupid well-housed donors who decided to give their money to that instead of, well, literally anything else

The Poasters - the academy awards for shitposting

well, George Graham's Arsenal were indeed the antithesis of Ruud Gullit's "sexy football"

and thus did my career come to an ignominious end

@cjayanetti.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 9:36 AM

I doubt it tbh, otherwise he'd never have left! (also I don't know if he was Always Like That or just went off the deep end; tbh I suspect the latter - once you see the state at its worst, it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that's the state all the time)

AHAHAHAHAHA omfg

@cjayanetti.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 9:31 AM

it basically sounds like Waitrose Triggernometry

@cjayanetti.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 9:31 AM

I think so, but tbh he had a public profile pre-twitter

@cjayanetti.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 9:29 AM

that's pretty much my assumption (same with Captain Tom for that matter)

bring on the age of the asexual overlords

@cjayanetti.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 9:26 AM

no it wasn't because Lee Anderson was well resourced, it's because Lee Anderson's central accusation against her turned out to be true (that she was making a lot of money from poor people)

@cjayanetti.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 9:24 AM

Marina Hyde has quite a fanbase of Definitely Not Thirsty dads so they'll probably follow her over ("wait, we can watch her now?") - I don't think Amol Rajan has any particular fanbase of his own

@cjayanetti.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 9:07 AM

Kate Hopkins I think. She then threatened to sue Lee Anderson but didn't because it turned out he was right

It’s simply not possible to do this and do what their voters want - people will still arrive and if you aren’t processing applications (see the IMA) you still need to house people before you deport them so it would mean hotels or large scale sites

Great stuff from the Telegraph.

A 29-year-old woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said the high levels of unemployment were “noticeable” in the area.
“When you go into Somali town, as we call it, you just see people outside in the cafes,” she said, gesturing down the road, before adding: “It annoys me, they are loitering around and doing nothing.”
Addressing her own career path, the 29-year-old said: “I can’t work at the moment because of my mental health. Of course I want to work, I went to uni and studied English Literature for two years. I want to be a writer.”

Asides from the fact that I think it's good that even people on high incomes should benefit from state support, they also have a higher propensity to consume fuel, and this reduces the need for consumption which is something we should be striving for in a supply crisis to effectively lower costs
