It is becoming increasingly apparent that societies must create conditions to stop being merely spectators (and exploitation objects) of digitalisation. Instead of allowing it to further concentrate wealth, influence, and surveillance, open corporate silos and simultaneously build public capacity.
Curious what at uris you’re looking to curate? There some more general collection lexicons in the works that would let people curate at uris too
reminded of the way @kissane.myatproto.social articulated it
Curious about this too, zooming out i’ve chatted with @ronentk.me and team about how we could stand up a public url metadata service for web metadata, AT metadata, and academic metatdata.
Would love to see that! The semble collection is more of an archive with the hope that others could create higher-level summaries from it. I played around with putting together a weekly newsletter for a little bit, but it ended up being to much labor for me to curate the archive and newsletter.
If it's helpful I curate a collection of news, updates, discussions happening for atproto.
ah interesting! good to hear there's precedent, it's definitely a good challenge to have because it means communities are starting to tailor their spaces, but we also don't want to lose context collapse when posts are being syndicated across the rest of the network.
social internet on the rise
what strategies or collabs are you thinking about?
To reduce the dependence on apps manually parsing URLs, I wonder if `app.bsky.embed.recordWithMedia` to include the AT URI intended to be embedded and a fallback to other media if the client doesn't support it. Looks like it hasn't been used at all!
Very excited to see, I get a feeling we'll be see many more rich embeds popping up across bluesky clients! The Blacksky team did a great job progressively enhancing the embed for this, which is to say if another bluesky client doesn't support it, it falls back to a link embed.
Hoping to share some writing that dives deeper into this soon, but the angle for shifting the overton window that I find compelling is popularizing the idea of Account Service Providers, streamline the infrastructure to make it happen, and advocate for laws/regulation to sustain it.
You can though?
All this to say standard.site isn't a content lexicon, it's a publishing lexicon (more on that linked below). There isn't a single representation of long form content which that means it's important that there exists at least one canonical way to view it.
But it's not the only view of the document, there could be any number of urls that also render this blog. They have different trust boundaries for the end-user around how the content is being displayed. There some recent discussion about multi-URL attestation/trust here!
The url in the standard.site publication represents the canonical view of the documents as set by the author. It's canonical because of the bidirectional verification between the AT record and the web page creates a trust boundary that the content is being rendered as intended by the author.
Updated my folksonomy with a new type of lexicon, the meta-lexicon. It's very cool to see, particularly the part where different accounts/orgs can choose how lexicons should be searched across. I've come across a need for this type of lexicon too, I wonder if we should attempt to standardize it

plot twist, if it happens they will also make money selling handles
