I completed my ‘Booker decades’ overview by writing about ten of the best long- and shortlisted novels from the 2010s - featuring memories from shortlisted authors and judges from the decade, inc Tan Twan Eng, Sunjeev Sahota and Robin Robertson:

It's a measure of how bad I am at this game that I've just today discovered there's a special animation if you get them all right with no mistakes.

Ah yes, perhaps the most beloved literary trope of all: the classic McMuffin

A screenshot that reads: Moore throws in a Hitchcock-style McMuffin in the shape of a secret tape recording which will reveal just who has been betraying the gangsters.
The problem is that no-one has a machine on which to play it.

Retro rather than contemporaneous, but in Patrick McGrath’s Asylum, set in the 1950s, a middle-class dinner party serves curry as an exotic delicacy.

Perhaps, though unlike Prophet Song, it was good! 👀

Yes it really is brilliant. I loved his last, This Plague of Souls, too.

Yes agree, and Sahota just keeps getting better. He should have won by now! No quibble re McCormack either.

And he has a new book out in January!

Incredible softening and qualification ("suggest", "perception", "many", "might", "hoped") here by Chris Mason of poll results which consistently and clearly show - to quote the actual question - that a majority think it was wrong to leave the EU.

In doing so he hopes he can tap into public sentiment. Opinion polls suggest a perception among a majority that leaving the European Union has not turned out how many might have hoped.YouGov Brexit tracker, question "Do you think it was right or wrong to leave the EU?" with results since mid-2021 showing an increasing majority who think it was wrong, with numbers consistently around 57% "wrong", 30% "right" for the last three years

Might I suggest “wistful yet optimistic”?

Aside from the graphics, those meaningless slogans are such a tell. “Good Food, Brighter Days”
