Grumbling is our national pastime (despite the saying “mustn’t grumble!!!”).

The “economy” is meant as my shorthand for the cost of living, the debt, public services, unsustainable spending, taxes, crumbling infrastructure etc….

I was on a panel recently about Brexit, where someone raised the old canard that only a small minority of voters identified Brexit as their top concern - as if Brexit were a self-standing issue, with no bearing on their declared “top” concerns - economy, healthcare, defence, immigration etc 🙄😡🙄

@alexhh.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 7:31 PM

Yes, but still, I appreciate him starting a more honest conversation

@alexhh.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 3:51 PM

Well, I accept that criticism, maybe I’m being gratuitously harsh on SKS. And agree, we will still have to see if these refreshing statements translate into concrete action. Thank you for your feedback.

One of the best reads on this nonsensical proposal - doesn't mean it won't be popular of course: even if 95% of estates don't attract IHT, plenty of people aspire to be rich enough for theirs to do so (or rather to be able to use a policy like this to escape it).

All of them! Brexit never was the solution to the UK’s problems, but did make all of them harder to tackle.

Like him….🙄

Bravo, that man. Thank you to all the people of Ukraine.

Burnham, unlike Starmer, gets that if you have political capital, use it; and that if something is wrong, don’t let it fester, hoping problem will go away, but tackle it. His statements are at last lifting the miasma of lies, deceit and disingenuity around Brexit and opening space for proper debate

@chadbourn.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 7:25 AMReposted by @alexhh.bsky.social

Burnham started his much-needed assault on Brexit yesterday by confirming Russian interference in the vote. Now this: “In a statement to MPs, Andy Burnham will argue it is time to "face up to the reality that Brexit has done more harm than good" and "the status quo is not good enough for Britain."”

“American Values!” 🙄🙄🙄
