Best of luck, Roan!
Trying to migrate my author newsletter to Beehiiv and there's a lot of setup to do before I can announce it. I want to move all my old WordPress posts over, too, but that is gonna take some time. Hoping to have this finished by FrightReads in two weeks. For now, though, break time!
Ahhh that's so exciting!! Have fun! I want to hear all about how the boss fight goes!
Yes, it can import Scrivener files and Word files.

You will end up with different versions of your upload file as you fix typos, etc. Name them all differently, because KDP (and maybe Ingram too) only updates the file on their end if the name is different than the previous one. I add the date to the file name and change it for every new version.
Is it reverse? š Reverse of what?
+1 to OBS Studio and Audacity. For context, OBS is excellent for recording your webcam and desktop, if you have neither camera nor smartphone.
For editing, the best free software is DaVinci Resolve, by a long shot. It is professional-grade, so it has a steep learning curve, but there are countless video tutorials on YouTube showing you how to do anything in it. I refer to them constantly.
For filming myself, I use a Sony ZV-E10 with separate DJI Mic Mini. A recent smartphone model (within the past few years) with a USB-C lavalier mic works well, too, though. For voiceovers, my computer mic is a Logitech Yeti with a pop filterāentry-level but suits my needs.
Iāll definitely share how Iām using it for all the worldbuilding involved. When itās time to shift focus, Iāll start with importing and organizing all of my notes.
It's a quiet, rainy morning, which is the perfect weather for putting on cozy sweats, drinking tea, reading, and working on theālast? second to last?āchapter of my WIP. #WritingCommunity
I'm only starting out, but I keep a social media marketing database on Notion, which includes a calendar view and unscheduled ideas; spreadsheets to track sales and earnings, which I visualize with a Power BI report; and a to-do list to keep me on track with making content and writing newsletters.
I can't worry about uniqueness; otherwise, I wouldn't be able to tell any stories. In any case, I feel that my stories will be unique regardless of conscious effort, simply because I'm writing them. I contribute perspectives, interpretations, and ideas no one else will, because they are not me.
I love their friendship so much.
I am forever and always shouting the praises of K. M. Weiland's website for teaching how the heck to write a novel in the first place. www.helpingwritersbecomeauthors.com
I'm bad at coming up with questions, too. In general, I default to learning through observation than speaking up.
My characters start out as archetypes, so I base character voice off that, taking into account their backstories (especially education), personalities, and in some cases worldviews. In my head, I keep track of words they never use and ones they tend to use (though I should probably write this down).
Tagging @isaacxisaac.bsky.social who has this in his books!
A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned wanting to try Emberwrite, an offline, Scrivener-like writing software that seems more streamlined/simplified and has a strong anti-AI stance.
I've used it a few times now and want to give my initial review of the trial version. š§µ #WritingCommunity
